"You are responsible for the energy you bring into the room."
Last month, I traveled to Las Vegas to present to 4,000+ leaders at Aimbridge Hospitality’s Summit. Amidst the record-breaking heat and nonstop action of the Strip, I couldn't help but think: How does this environment feel to introverts, those more sensitive to stimuli, and members of the neurodivergent community??
A Heartfelt Message in a Bustling Setting?
If you've attended one of my sessions, you know that I often speak from a place of deep intuition and connection. That day in Vegas was no different. I unveiled the brainSHIFT: Energy Blueprint program - and gave a special shout-out to those who felt energy overload or energy deprived in their brains in such a setting.
Las Vegas is a city I end up in several times a year for speaking engagements, but I too often feel overwhelmed the minute I enter the airport in record heat, crowds and noise. I was in town for less than 24 hours and created a plan. How do I maintain my energy, and how can I teach this to others?
The #brainSHIFT leadership principle follows simple guidelines
(yet how many of us put our to-do list items first on the list?)
So if we are talking about managing our energy- ask yourself:
The last few weeks have been non-stop travel in cities facing extreme heat for speaking engagements and then joining the national board of the Girl Scouts.?
We turned my energy goals into standard operating procedures (SOPs) for my team- literally, there has been a project on our speaking board called “Operation Feed Dr. Romie” to ensure I don’t skip meals or sustain myself on Biscoff cookies in flight.
brainSHIFT to restore energy in? my brain:?
?Instead of focusing on the heat, noise, and commotion, I maintained a sense of calm with one of my favorite techniques; I put on noise-canceling headphones and chose binaural beats music (a sound healing technique we researched for my upcoming book, The Busy Brain Cure)
Also, I protect my sleep at all costs.
I travel with special supplements to take 30 minutes before bedtime to ensure I sleep in every time zone, and I excuse myself from the dinner receptions and parties early on the nights before I need to speak.

Given the long flights and the 117-degree heat, I also made sure to stay hydrated by taking salt tablets with my water.? I also ended called a concierge service for intravenous fluids for hydration with their special jet-lag formula.?
brainSHIFT to energize my team:
Once we calm our own Busy Brains, we get to choose the energy we bring into the room.? Calm for those who feel overwhelmed and overstimulated in a setting creating sensory overload. An encouraging smile, a hug, and of course taking a pause to listen.
?
Remember: YOU are responsible for the energy you bring into the room.
What energy are you projecting? What energy does your company culture foster?
We tend to underestimate the power our personal energy can have on others. As leaders, we can miss that our tone and energy directly impact company culture.??
So today, I want to ask you: do you have a Busy Brain?? Is a Busy Brain causing you to be in energy overdrive or energy deprived?
It’s time for you and your team to #brainSHIFT .
I have programs that I deliver as an interactive keynote lecture and workplace wellness programs.?
Let’s brainSHIFT,
Dr. Romie
