How your Christmas customer data can boost your 2024 sales?

Your sales ramp up at Christmas.? You’re busy completing all your orders.? You’re making sure all your customers are happy.? You’re asking for reviews and user-generated content.? ? By the time Christmas comes, you’re ready for a festive tipple or treat – because it’s been manic.?

But the work doesn’t end there, because now you have made all those wonderful sales, you need to make sure you get the value out of the customer data you have collected.? What do I mean by that??

Your new customers can help you by:?

  • Increasing revenue – by buying again?
  • Improving your reputation – by telling others?
  • Helping your online presence – by leaving reviews or sharing user-generated content (using it in a video/post)?
  • Becoming a customer with a lifetime value – a one-off purchase could be turned into regular sales?

And it’s perfectly legal under GDPR to use your customer data for these purposes.?

You could take the opportunity to:?

  • Say thank you...tell them how much you appreciate the sale?
  • Encourage them to sign up for a regular mailer with special offers?
  • Highlight other products and services that might be of interest?
  • Direct them to an online tutorial/training video to help make the most of their purchase? ?

Don’t tell people who already bought Product A, about Product A – tell them about Products B, C, D etc to entice them to make a purchase. Try to relate it to what they've already bought - or even encourage them to share a review in return for an offer like:? ?

  • We hope you're enjoying your perfume - have you seen our matching body lotion ranges??
  • Love the case of Pinot Noir you bought? Take a look at our new range of red wines for 2024?
  • We'd love to hear what you think about your new sofa. Sit comfortably and share a review on our social media and we'll send you a 10% off code for our home accessories.??

Making your communications personal and relevant could be the difference between a one-off purchase and a customer for life.??

If a customer spent £10 and you didn't keep in touch, that might be their only spend with you. But if they become a regular customer and spend £10 a month, they're now of higher value to you and your business. If they review you well and tell others - holy grail time!?

All because you used your customer data well!?

Use your sales data wisely to give you better, more targeted marketing.?

Communications that are irrelevant or offer a discount for something already purchased do not work!?

Since GDPR came in, businesses I speak to have been worried about using customer data – how much they use it, when they can use it and what they can say to their customers.? ?Some clients have not used it at all, whilst one deleted everything – scared of the consequences of getting it wrong.? ?

It doesn’t need to scare you though – it’s your data and you can use it to market to those customers again for repeat sales or upsells – you just need to follow a few simple rules.? Most importantly make sure you customers have access to your privacy notice and it outlines what you will use their data for.?

They’ve bought from you once, so they might again – and reminding them that you are there is a good idea during what’s a very busy time of year. They might forget you in amongst all the gifts they are buying.?
