How Are You Using Your Everyday Privilege to Create Impact?

As 2024 comes to a close, many of us are grappling with a whirlwind of emotions: exhaustion, uncertainty, and a sense of being caught between reflecting on the past and planning for the future. I’ve heard it all—“It’s hard to reflect right now,” “I’m just trying to finish off 2024,” or “I don’t know my purpose.”

I can relate deeply at times to these sentiments. The path to growth often passes through challenging times. But even in moments of darkness, staying focused on our collective responsibility is crucial. Helping others is not just a choice—it’s a fundamental part of being human. As the Harvard Business Review puts it: Use your everyday privilege to help others.

With 2025 on the horizon, let’s embrace our radical responsibility to society by taking meaningful action. Here are a few practical ways to channel your resources, connections, and dollars to make a difference:

1. Share Your Expertise

Offer your time and skills to organizations in need. Expect nothing in return; the rewards will come in unexpected ways. If you’re still discovering your strengths to build expertise, follow their lead to listen, act and execute. If there are questions, ask. Have ideas, talk through them, hop on a Zoom and collaborate.?

2. Truly Listen and Act

Ask what an organization requires, set aside your own agenda, and take action selflessly. Connect them with resources, tools, or people who can help—don’t just observe from the sidelines.

3. Share Connections

The power of connection is profound. What may seem like a small introduction to you could be life-changing for someone else. Start connecting people intentionally and watch the ripple effects.

You don’t have to launch a social impact organization or have everything figured out to make a difference. Start where you are, with what you have, you have time available, even if 15 minutes. Even the smallest action can create significant change when done with intention and purpose.

Let’s reflect, act, and lead boldly into 2025—together.
