How Are You Tracking Your Fitness Progress?

How Are You Tracking Your Fitness Progress?

What’s the best way to track your fitness progress?

The best fitness progress measurement is whatever you think works best for you. Choose a measurement that is relevant to your goals and the reasons for starting your fitness journey. One reason to track your progress is that it can help you to stay motivated. As you work towards getting fitter, it can be easy to feel discouraged if you aren’t reaching your goals as quickly as you think you should.

Keeping a record of how far you have come can help you see that you are making progress. When you want to make a change, the best way to begin is by recording your starting point. Once you have a baseline, it’s easier to notice improvements and adjust your routine so you can achieve your goals.

Keeping a journal can help you reflect on your progress. Some things you might record could be your energy levels, overall mood, quality of sleep, and if exercises are starting to become easier.

Transformation photos are another way that you can see how your body changes over time. Taking a photo before you start your fitness routine and comparing it to a photo a month later can show you changes in your body composition and confidence.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so taking measurements of your body can show you even the smallest changes in your body composition. Measurements are helpful for more than just tracking your weight loss goals. The measurements can help you identify imbalances, strengths, and weaknesses.

You can also be guided by the fit of your clothes. Pick a pair of jeans and use the fit to measure your progress every month or so.

If one of the reasons you started your fitness journey is to improve your overall health, then you may want to consider getting a physical from your doctor. Exercise has so many health benefits. It may reduce the risk of chronic disease, lessen your chance of becoming overweight, improves your cardiovascular fitness, and can help you live longer with improved overall wellbeing.
