In today's fast-paced world, how we show up energetically in any situation can significantly impact the opportunities that come our way. This concept became vividly clear to me during a 12-week program on effectiveness, where I encountered a profound example of energetic transformation.
The Power of Intention
Let me share the story of a fellow participant in the program. She was an actress and a talented member of the Screen Actors Guild. Despite her abilities, she wasn't booking the gigs she needed to cover her rent or car payment. Her initial intention was clear: get the gigs. But it wasn't working. Her neediness—the desperation—came across in her auditions, creating a roadblock to her success.
Inventing a New Possibility
Determined to change her circumstances, she adopted a new mindset. She set her intention not just on landing roles but instead on being a massive contribution to every audition, to the director, and to the overall success of the project. She didn't alter her skills or her appearance, but the way she energetically presented herself transformed significantly.
A Shift in Outcomes
The results of this shift were extraordinary. She started booking TV commercials, landed a Netflix gig, and got more television roles. Her transformation showed up in her energetic presence, and others noticed. It was a powerful change, driven by a new intention that resonated with everyone she interacted with.
Adopting the Mindset of Contribution
Seeing her success, I couldn't help but adopt the same approach for myself. I focused on being a massive contribution to my projects and to those watching. Imagine if you were hiring an actress and had ten equally talented candidates, but one was clearly there to be a substantial contribution to the project's success. It's obvious who you would hire.
Final Thoughts
This story isn't just about acting; it's a powerful lesson for any field you are in. Adopting a mindset of contribution—where your goal is to uplift the project and those around you—can drastically change not just your outcomes but also the energy you bring into every situation. So, how are you showing up energetically today?
Are you there to fill a role, or to be a massive, undeniable contribution? The choice is yours, and the impact of that choice can be transformative.

Communicate, Connect & Collaborate-It's about How You Show Up
1 周Excellent story and advice, Joe. I'm married to an Actress and she tells a similar story of changing how she approached every audition with the same commitment to contribution, no matter what. This certainly applies to everyone, in every kind of job. What value do you bring to your position? Your job? Your family, friends and associates? Start there. Thanks again, Joe.
