How are you? Really?

How are you? Really?

In a world where "busy" has become the default response to "How are you?" It's time to pause and consider: is busyness really a badge of honour, or is it an excuse?

We're living in an era where our calendars are crammed, our inboxes are overflowing, and our lives seem to be an unending whirlwind of commitments. But here's the controversial truth: being too busy is just that – an excuse.

The real issue lies in our inability to say "no," to set boundaries and to take control of our own lives. It's about not giving in to the demands of others, relinquishing our own autonomy, and blaming external circumstances for our lack of time.

This pattern of perpetual busyness is unsustainable and, frankly, a disempowering way to live.

The Busy Epidemic is Real

If you're nodding in agreement, thinking that being busy is an inescapable reality, it's time to challenge that belief. Being "too busy" is often a symptom of poor time management, a lack of personal discipline, and a failure to set priorities. It's a way of deflecting responsibility for our own actions and giving control of our lives to others.

We must embrace an excuse-free attitude and invite the opportunity to be time-rich and thriving. This requires a shift in mindset from being reactive to proactive, from overwhelmed to in control.

Imagine being a new parent, returning to a full-time job just five months after giving birth, with minimal family support and the added pressure of rebuilding a career in a new country. This was the reality for me, and it led to burnout and a sense of helplessness.

I was trying to be the perfect parent, manager, partner, and friend all at once, depleting my energy levels and operating purely out of survival mode. Until one day, I reached my breaking point and had to make a tough choice: either leave my job or reduce my hours.

Surprisingly, my boss responded with, "What can we do to help?" This was a turning point. I realised that being exhausted isn't leadership, nor is it inspiring to others. To become our brilliant selves, we must acknowledge our humanity, make tough decisions, and learn to say "no." This is the path to creating genuine influence and impact.

But maybe you currently don’t have that person who is pushing you to stop, to think about what you really need, and to plan ahead. To help you avoid burnout and stress and set yourself up for success. This year I’ve seen far too many people struggling alone, and it hasn’t been something only I’ve noticed.?

When a good friend and Inner Circle member Donna McGeorge said she was noticing the same thing amongst her clients we decided to do something about it. That’s how A Space to Connect - A Day Your Future Self Will Thank You For was born. We wanted to create an event that allowed you to access our top-tier training, before the end of the year so you could create a plan to build success on your terms in 2024.

Reconnect with yourself, reconnect with your goals, and reconnect with a community of like-minded individuals who will help you reach these goals.?

Early-bird tickets are only available for the next week so make sure you secure yours now so you don’t miss out.?

We can’t wait to share with you the tips, tools, and plans that we use to stay on top of all the many things that go on in our lives without falling back into the bad habits of people-pleasing and fatigue.?

This has been an amazing event to put together and I can guarantee that the energy in the room is going to be electric, so are you ready to make a change for the better??

One of the biggest things I have learned this year is the benefit of deliberately pausing, stopping taking on new work, and allowing time to rest properly between engagements. I know we have talked about this lots Janine. I don't want to be 'busy'. I want to work enough, but not to fatigue-point. I'm no good to my clients if I'm broken.

?? and that's a yes from me, especially with end of year events rolling through. I really like, "It's time to quit solving and start asking the right questions." Sounds like it may take more time but it actually helps speed things up so we have more free time. Thank you for this reflection Janine
