How are you prioritizing self-care?
Today is World Mental Health Day!
?If you aren’t familiar, World Mental Health Day is recognized by the World Health Organization as a special time for mental health education, awareness and advocacy against harmful stigmas. It’s a reminder that how we feel socially, emotionally and psychologically is an integral part of our overall health and well-being. Just like our physical health requires exercise or a doctor’s appointment, our minds ask us to practice good mental health hygiene.
For me, today prompts an important question: When I need to recharge my social battery, what helps me de-stress? In an age where everyone is just a text, email or Zoom call away, what does it really look like for me to pause and practice meaningful self-care?
These are big questions — but important for each of us to consider.
At TransUnion, we’re recognizing this year’s World Mental Health Day theme — Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority — in a few impactful ways. Friday, September 30, we observed our second global day off for associates this year, serving as both a celebration of our associates’ extraordinary work this year and as an opportunity to recharge, relax and be with loved ones. I know I enjoyed my day off, and I hope our associates did, too.

I was also pleased to open an event hosted by Peace of Mind, TransUnion’s Network Resource Group (NRG) dedicated to helping associates foster a peaceful and productive work environment. In recognition of International Day of Peace on Monday, September 21, we discussed the practice of mindfulness, navigating work-life balance, hybrid working and how to effectively deal with stress, illness and more.?
In addition to sharing ongoing resources for mental wellness, today TransUnion’s NRGs are kicking off their first Walk for Wellness, an initiative encouraging our global community to take 30 minutes this week to walk or engage in other stress relieving activities. Studies show that walking and other forms of physical exercise can produce positive mental health benefits, like better stress and anxiety management and increased self-esteem — and we encourage our associates to take this time to reflect on their own mental wellness.
Personally, I’m looking forward to blocking off my calendar to walk and think through what self-care looks like for me. I hope you’ll join me this week in finding moments to reflect and ponder…

2 年Great and thoughtful post, Teedra! “In an age where everyone is just a text, email or Zoom call away, what does it really look like for me to pause and practice meaningful self-care?” This is so relatable. It can admittedly be so difficult to pause and prioritize ourselves given today’s society and technology. It’s important to take that time to think about what self care really means for ourselves as individuals. For me, it’s unplugging from my phone and laptop, curling up in front of my favorite binge-worthy TV show and avoiding all social interaction, lol. Thanks for sharing
