How are you? If you need to talk, call me...

How are you? If you need to talk, call me...

No, really.... how are you? How are you feeling? I've been feeling emotional:

  • concerned and upset about the lives lost and impacted by the devastation of the fires;
  • frustrated and angry at the lack of empathy and leadership from our PM,
  • inspired and grateful for the work of our incredible firefighters (both paid and volunteer),
  • hopeful that this will finally drive meaningful engagement and commitment at a government and corporate level about taking action on climate change and
  • empowered by the ability for each and every one of us to help out and contribute in whatever way possible - be it volunteering on the frontline, making donations, creating ripples of change or writing to our elected leaders demanding change.

I ask "how are you?" because it's struck me in recent conversations with friends, colleagues and strangers, that everyones feeling particularly emotional, especially at a time of year that is traditionally filled with celebration and new beginnings.

Looking for another way to help? How about reach out to those around us, to see how they are, to create the safe space where people can share the full array of emotions they're experiencing.

So on a day where many Australians are heading back to work for the new year, I ask whether you have checked in with how you're feeling? Have you created the safe space for your team to speak about how they're feeling? And are you reaching out to those around you to see how they are and listening?

If anyone would like to chat, please get in touch with me.

Thank you Julia - allowing each of us to actually self check-in. I am deep in a reflective state and have been since stopping work late December 2019. I have started a 50 at 50 daily reflection and its stirring up a lot of emotions for me as I head into my 50th year this year! Being in the moment with ourselves is vital to create a space where we can just BE and then allows others to just BE too. Let's chat soon!
