The month of?May brings with it Mother's Day, and whether or not?our mothers are still in our lives, this holiday brings us an important message. We all need the presence of strong, loving, compassionate maternal energy in our lives. So where do you find this energy in your own life? More on this below.

How Are You Mothering Yourself?

Depending on your past experiences, the idea of maternal energy may bring up many different emotions and experiences. However, at its core,?maternal energy is the ability to feel, experience, and share unconditional love?for everyone and every thing. It is the energy behind the Reiki precept,?'Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing'.

Maternal energy provides us with the ability to nourish ourselves and others, feeding our passions, desires, and dreams while soothing aching feelings, broken hearts, or tired minds.

It is vital that we continue to integrate maternal energy into our daily lives,?so that we can feel nourished, supported, and secure.?Here are some ideas on how to mother yourself this month:

• Play with your Inner Child!?There are many resources on how to engage with your Inner Child, but the simplest ways are to simply do the things you loved to do as a child, imagine giving your younger self a hug, or write the younger you a letter.
• Make nourishment your word of the month.?Think about how the things in your life, from food to relationships to sensory experiences and more, can nourish you. What does it mean to nourish your soul?
• Repeat a comforting act from childhood.?Did your mom make the bed a certain way, or give you orange soda when you were sick? Recreate some of your favorite memories of maternal energy.
• Think of what makes you feel safe, content, and comforted, and make a conscious effort to bring more of that into your daily life.
