How many of you have made a new year’s resolution this year? If you have, has it been based around achieving something? Maybe achieving a pay rise, a promotion, buying a new car or house.
We live in such a busy world where we want to achieve more and more. Let’s sit back and think. What could our New Year’s resolution be to help us enjoy life more and have positive mental health?
Have you ever heard of Top Ups? I heard about them from Claire Stone, who I see as my role model for positive mental health. Claire includes them in her everyday life. Examples of Claire’s are to go onto the grass in the garden with bare feet and throw a ball with her kids, watch the moon, walk in a field.
Some of the Top Ups I’ve chosen to do are sitting on my own enjoying a cup of tea, playing and laughing on the trampoline with my children, going for a walk around the block. I’ve made a list and am aiming to do at least 3 Top Ups in a week.
What New Year’s resolution could you make that is more about enjoying life with the people you care about as well as enjoying life for you? Yes, it is important to achieve in work. Let’s also think about how to achieve a work-life balance to prevent mental health concerns.
