Last week, i talked about CRO and how you can get started with testing. This week, let me dive a little further and break down how to go about designing your home page for higher conversions and sales.

Role of a Good home page

A home page should serve some basic functions and serve them well

  1. Introduce your brand to prospects
  2. Highlight the value prop
  3. Build credibility
  4. Soft sell your product
  5. Educate

Best practices?

Best practices tend to vary depending on what stage your brand is at or what sector you’re in. But there’re some practices that apply universally.

Hero Image:

This is the first thing that a shopper will look at when she drops in on your website. According to a study, users focus?88.3% of their attention above the fold. This makes it prime real estate

Make sure, you use this to highlight?core product and brand usp. If you have a large number of SKUs, use this to highlight your brand or hero product.

Make sure your?Call To Action is compelling

Social Proof:

They say you should never toot your own horn, i say toot away.

Include all the?5 star review?that you’ve been collecting, or if a celebrity loves your product or if you’ve been featured in a reputed publication

This adds credibility to your brand.

Guarantee:

Most shoppers are a little apprehensive when they’re shopping with a brand for the first time. Remove all the inhibitions by offering a no risk guarantee.

Best sellers:

Have you ever gone to a fine dining restaurant and asked for suggestions on what to order?

This works exactly like that

If a shopper is trying to make a decision on what to buy,?simplify it for them by showcasing your best sellers.

How to use

You can have links to content on how to use your product. It could be recipes, how to pair it, when to use it and so on

You get the gist right?

TL;DR:

Think of your home page as a sales person in your virtual store. It should be able to do all those things and more.
