How you can get personalised support with job searching, CVs and more from fellow students

By Samantha Shore , Peer Career Support Team Manager

Careers, Employability & Opportunity at UofG are thrilled to introduce our new Peer Career Support Team !

Our department received funding from the Student Experience Strategy to launch this programme, and we can't wait for you to meet the team!

What's the Peer Career Support Team??

The Peer Career Support (PCS) Team is a new initiative designed to make it easier for you to access and benefit from Careers, Employability & Opportunity services.

Peer Career Supporters are fellow students who'll be the first friendly faces you see when you’re unsure where to start with anything related to careers and employability. Whether you’ve got questions or just want to know where to begin, the PCS Team is here to help!

This team will give you a clear and accessible introduction to our resources, answering your questions straight away or delegating to our Careers Advisors as needed.

How can they help you?

The Peer Career Support Team is equipped to help you in various ways, making career resources easier to understand and more accessible. Some of the key areas of support include:

  • learning about Careers, Employability & Opportunity services: Not sure where to start? The PCS Team can introduce you to the University's careers services and help you understand how to make the most of them.
  • maximising available resources: From in-person Masterclasses to online tools, the PCS Team can help you find the resources to fit your needs.
  • building confidence in your future: By providing support and reassurance, the PCS Team aims to make you feel more confident in your career choices and the steps you’re taking toward your future goals.
  • practical support: Peer Career Supporters can offer CV reviews, assistance with job searching and employer research, LinkedIn guidance and much more.

Where can you meet them?

The home of the Peer Career Support Team will be in the Career Studio (formerly Pod A) on Level 2 of the Fraser Building . Students can drop in to meet with a member of the team between 09:00 and 17:00 during term time—no appointment needed!

In addition to the Career Studio, the PCS Team can be found in various pop-up locations around campus this term, including a regular spot at The Avenue in the James McCune Smith Building on Thursdays from 10:00 to 16:00, beginning the Thursday, 10 October.

Keep an eye out for the PCS Team on campus this academic year, and if you’ve got a free minute, swing by and say hi! They’re here to make your career journey easier, so don’t hesitate to stop by for a chat.

Your future career starts now, and with the right support, you’ll be ready to take the next step confidently!
