What is Armed Forces Day?
Armed Forces Day is a national celebration for the service and dedication of the Armed Forces. This year for the tenth anniversary, the historic seaside town of Llandudno in North Wales will host the national Armed Forces Day event on the 30th June 2018. Llandudno is a place with many current and historic links to the Armed Forces, especially The Royal Welsh. Across the UK, other events are being held locally to support Armed Forces personnel.
What is #SaluteOurForces?
The #SaluteOurForces hashtag is a great way to pay tribute to the British Armed Forces community on social media, for their hard work and efforts to keep civilians safe not only in the UK, but around the world.
How you can get involved with Armed Forces Day & #SaluteOurForces:
Attend or host an event
With so many free events taking place across the UK, there is every opportunity to show your support and get involved with the national celebrations. If you can’t attend an event, or you feel like being creative, why not create your own event and invite friends and family to join you in celebrating the Armed Forces.
#SaluteOurForces
Getting involved online on either Facebook or Twitter is a fantastic way to show your support. To pay tribute to the British Armed Forces, share a photo or video of yourself, your colleagues, or friends and family saluting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #SaluteOurForces.
The right way to salute like service personnel:
- The Royal Navy salutes with hand facing down.
- The British Army and Royal Air Force salute with palms out.
Fly your own Armed Forces flag
Another way to get involved with the celebrations is to make your own Armed Forces flag, or decorate your property with bunting. You could even search for an image of the Armed Forces Day flag and print it out.

Show your support and celebrate Reserves Day:
What is Reserves Day?
This year Reserves Day is being celebrated on Wednesday 27th June.
Reservists everywhere give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces to ensure that if their country requires their help, they are ready to serve as part of the military.
One-sixth of the Armed Forces personnel are made up of Reservists, as they are vital to protecting the nation’s security, both at home and overseas, as well as providing capabilities in specialist areas such as medical and cybersecurity.
There are currently reservists supporting operations in Iraq, Bahrain, Cyprus, Somalia, Estonia, South Sudan, and Afghanistan, and yet their contribution towards the Armed Forces often goes unnoticed. Therefore, annual Reserves Day was created to recognise the efforts and valuable contribution that Reservists make for the Armed Forces.
Get involved and show your support:
This year, employers everywhere can get involved in thanking Reservists for their commitment to serving our country by attending events, holding a workplace talk, organising your own event, or just getting involved on social media. You could even contact your local unit directly and organise an event that they can join and be a part of.
