How You Can Easily Overcome the Fear of Failure

As a motivational speaker, my job is to inspire people towards working on their dreams.

Many times, you’d hear me say things like, “I believe in you. You will not fail! You cannot afford to fail.”

It usually works, as I get a lot of positive feedback.

This sort of things happens every day, even in churches. Prayers against failing usually get the highest “Amen”.

Is it bad? No.

The only problem is that because of this, many of us start believing subconsciously that it is bad to fail.

Well, guess what? It isn't!

If your failure rate is very low, then you are not trying out enough things.

You can always learn from other people's experiences so you don't fail that much.

Still, there are times when your own experience is what you need to really learn and grow.

If only we could start seeing failing as part of a learning experience, and not something to be scared of.

It's just like our school homework.

Failing simply means an opportunity to be corrected so you can learn how to do things better.

Being a failure is different. That one starts happening when you refuse to get up and start running when you fall.

Note that I said ‘when’, not ‘if’ you fall.

If you accept failing as part of learning and being better, you will start seeing yourself succeeding more.

Why?

Because the fear of failure is worse than failure itself.

And when you overcome the fear of failure, failure loses its power over you, and you will start succeeding beyond your wildest dreams.

Here’s what the legend, Michael Jordan had to say about failure:

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Let's look at it this way:

Let's say your goal is to make 25 baskets.

And you made 15 perfect attempts and made 15 baskets.

Someone else comes and makes 40 attempts and makes 25 baskets.

If you consider the failure rate, you may conclude that the first guy was more of a success than the second guy.

However, remember that the goal isn't to measure the failure rate, but to measure the success.

And when you use that as the criteria, the first guy wins.

What does this mean for you?

Accept that failure is part of success. Embrace it, accept it when it happens.

Stop being afraid of it. Stop allowing it to scare you into a life of procrastination or inactivity.

One question I usually ask myself is this, "What's the worst thing that could happen?"

Answering that question sincerely always helps me put things in the right perspective and deflate the balloon of the fear of failure.

Do the same.

Just imagine how awesome and great your life would have been if you had no fears.

Imagine what feats you'd have accomplished if you were not so scared of failing.

Now, imagine that it doesn't matter whether you succeed or 'fail'. Either way, you still succeed.

Because even if you 'fail’, it’s a learning opportunity for you.

Read these Bible verses out loud to yourself.

"God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.”

“For we know that ALL THINGS work out together for good to those that love God”.

And lastly, "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me ".

Tell me again why you should be afraid of failure. Tell me again why you think failing is such a bad thing.

Did you fail?

Get up and try again. Keep trying, until you succeed.

That's how winners win. That's how success outlaws kick ass.

Question is what are you?

A failure, or a winner who failed?

You know the answer already!
