This is how you can easily make N5-10million or more after Corona Virus in Nigeria.
About 4years ago, I did some basic research about recycling, specifically, electronic waste recycling. I'd be sharing some of my findings with you guys, so share.
Electronic waste is a gold mine, literally. Your phones, laptops, TVs, etc are all made with precious metals like gold, silver, copper, etc., sometimes, some gadgets contain these metals in significant quantities - the motherboards of some old laptops for instance.
Now E-waste recycling in Europe is a booming sector as most recyclying Plants are located there. America too. Therefore, the e-waste generated in these regions end up in the plants. But check this - in Africa, we have near to no functional plants in this region, so where does the e-waste end up? Landfills mostly. Further, the demand for the e-waste to service the plants in Europe exceeds the supply. So a few persons have come up with a clever idea to collect these e-waste and sell it to recyclers in Europe. They collect and strip down these gadgets to their bare panels and then ship them to these plants in Europe that buy them. I don't want to delve into the fact that some Europeans still dump e-waste in Africa, so as not to deviate or confuse you.
During my research, i contacted some plants in Europe and a few in America and told them i had e-waste, asked if they'd be interested in buying, a few responded specifying the minimum quantity they'd need and the condition of these gadgets, but one thing stood out, they all insisted i was going to handle the shipping myself, uptill their doorstep. This added an extra level of complication to the process for me then. Bear in mind, i didn't have any in my possession, but i was testing the waters to see what was obtainable. So the deal is this, these guys will actually buy electronic scrap from you, but require a minimum quantity for it to be worth their while. How do you now gather and sort your inventory? I came up with a plan, i believe this to be the most critical part of the process. I was either going to recruit "truck pushers" or just people, pay them on commission and visit major e-waste places like Computer Village, talk to many of the gadget repair shops and buy their scrap. But this buying is tricky because the shop owners want a lot for the scrap, but you must not overpay for it. It is critical that you find the right margin to remain profitable. Assuming you agree to buy motherboards of laptops for N1000 a piece, you have to factor in how much you're going to sell to the recyclers because they're not buying per piece, they're buying in tonnes & containers, and ensure the N1k is the best price.
This brings me to pricing. So there's a pricing template per kg or tonne, this is mostly the prevelant international price for these things, although some of them will try to negotiate lower prices with you. I don't know the current prices, but you can find out yourself. So there you go. Establish a smart network to collect the e-waste, establish relationship with the recycling plants/buyers in Europe, secure orders, agree price/quantity, handle shipping, and you're in business.
