How To Write Viral Threads - 4-Step Success System
Twitter is one of the fastest social media platforms out there.
A good tweet can get 100,000s of thousands of impressions in less than 24 hours.
But here's the issue:
People won't remember you if you're just tweeting basic relatable content all the time, such as self-care tips.
Here's how to get 100,000s of impressions AND get followers that remember you:
Threads.
1. Get Inspired
Just like anything else, there’s a formula to writing viral threads.
There's some style a viral thread has, that can be repeated... And while I'm going to walk you through most in this article, it's better if you see for yourself.
Here are some of the key points that make a viral thread:
2. Big Ocean Topics
Those are some examples of "big ocean" topics.
Why do I recommend you go with one of them?
Because on social media, Twitter, especially, the impressions to engagement ratio is crucial.
If the content is getting impressions but no engagement, Twitter will stop suggesting it.
The reason this is so crucial is that you need most of the people to understand your content, otherwise it's not going to work... Because you'll get low engagement for the impressions.
If you want to reach a more niche audience, I'd still recommend that you write in a style that can be understood by everyone in your space (Simplify the language).
For example, if you're writing about CRO for Ecommerce Stores, you want to ensure that the content can be understood by most ecom owners...

Not just super CRO specialists, because you want to appeal to a wider audience (you're here to go viral right?).
Bonus tip: Twitter actually has a feature called topics. You can find them in your home menu by clicking "more" and then you'll see topics. From here, browse to find the relevant topic, and then include that specific word in your top tweet. If you get good engagement it'll get suggested to everyone who's previously engaged with that topic.
3. Connect with emotions
From my experience, the best ways to get a thread to pop is:
#1 is better because people are more likely to remember you. But #2 is generally easier.
Both options connect with the readers' emotions, #1 connects people to you. While #2 uses their existing feelings toward a book or something similar.
Generally speaking, picture threads of illustrations or something very relatable can work well too, as you see in the example below.
4. Format
In terms of formatting I'd suggest that you, again, look at what's already working:
DON'T Format the thread like a wall of text... Make sure there are spaces in between your lines, and ideally you want numbered headings to ensure they're easy to follow.
You'll 10x your chances of people reading it, and engaging with it.
Meaning: You'll 10x your chances of going viral.
Bonus: Promote
Finally, there are studies that suggest that a tweet can die in as little as 18 minutes.
The way you make sure it doesn't happen is by promoting it. Get your friends, family, employees, or colleagues to retweet it.
Send it out in an email.
Promote it via a Push notification.
Do something, and you'll 10x your chances of it popping off... So then you get suggested all over Twitter.
This + the topics tip from earlier together = crazy visibility.
