REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL DOS & DONTS
RFPs! What are they? Proposals are inquiries / documents sent by businesses or brands seeking to determine the price of a particular service for a specific project. For example, if you were looking to rebrand, you could request a bid from potential vendors.
Okay. So what’s the issue?
Here at BrandSwan, we have a huge love/ hate relationship with RFPs. It’s a lot of work crafting a well-detailed and effective RFP, and often we get very limited information to work with. So, if you want a great response for your bid, here are our best practices.
RFP Practices that We Love?
- Know Your Budget and Set Expectations
- Pre-screen Your Vendors
- Provide Thorough Briefs (Don't worry, we have a template for that!)
- Give Opportunity for Questions
- Set A Reasonable Deadline for Submission
- Be Openminded
Don't worry, we have a template...

1 å¹´Jane Clark thank you for sharing this--so valuable! I love sending proposals because it means I have an opportunity to work with a new brand. I hate sending proposals because it's often a long process and getting answers can be so hard.
Such useful tools Jane Clark but it doesn't surprise me coming from you! Thanks for this.
I think there are two different categories of rfps. Ones that are more operational and ones that include creative. With creative, having to give away your ideas in a detailed rfp without compensation is definitely more on the hate than love side of this discussion. The love is having a written understanding of what the client is looking for and need or at least what they think they need.

1 å¹´Downloading right now. I guess an RFP depends on who it's for. Big government ones are generally a waste of time. Lucrative. But they're not looking for creativity. Small ones still need the right level of detail to ensure everyone's on the same page. And can take time to get right, but really worth it. Great template and structure. Thanks for sharing.
