How to write a proper headline for your profile?

I have reviewed around 21000+ individual profiles to date, definitely more. As a Technical Recruiter, Sourcing Specialist, and before all this, as a user of LI products. I have always focused on the headline of a profile.

I feel there are three approaches that one can take while deciding on a headline for their profile:

1) Keeping it direct - One designation (your current one), which is standard like 'Software Engineer' 'Branch Manager' 'Team Lead' 'Engineering Manager' and so on.

Benefit - Linkedin Recruiter will be able to pick up your profile easily in searches done by R&S folks. That's the best. You will ideally not miss any opportunity that strikes your domain or level.

Con - Nothing, to be honest, this is a professional platform (turning social one which is good too), If you want to show you are a unique and vibrant individual there are many ways to do that. headline, I wouldn't suggest is one.

2) Going all Sizzle on the jargons - 'Curator of Success' 'Gurus' 'Wizards' 'Ninjas' and all. That is actually almost everyone now too. That's the catch, it was picky and good when it started, those headlines made you unique and memorable, the hook to remember you by. But sadly, not anymore, why? because every other person is doing that.

Remember you will find a 'writer' 'curator' 'influencer' in every second corner of social media, I am no exception to that race either. But a headline has to be well crafted, I don't want to wreck my brain to understand what you actually do, to be honest. Type 2 also covers the ones with emojis on it.

3) The ones who highlight purpose - 'Driving teams to deliver automation', 'Building the next web4 world' 'chasing unicorns with flying cars' 'not chasing unicorn doing old style' now these are my favorite too. Simply because they are not boring and not exaggerating something like everyone, plus in such headlines, you can only focus on one purpose of you. Which is what I feel is important.

It's a free World, you are open to writing what suits you best, remember the purpose of your current headline,

If you are seeking a new opportunity, I would suggest going with the first one without a second thought. i.e. you will be discovered in search results for roles relevant to you.

If you are going for addressing your connections and immediate circle (your followers and 2nd-degree connection) by just bringing more traction to your profile - go WILD!!!

If you are aiming to build a career in a particular domain only, say Aeronautics or Coding, feel free to highlight that purpose statement as your headline. 'All things flight, or 'The coder of everything codable' (sorry not sorry).

Thank You for taking the time to read it. I appreciate it.
