How to write a professional CV

A CV is the first impression a prospective employer has of you. That's why it's important to know how to write a quality document that will get company management to hire you.

Want to know how to write a CV? In this article, we have collected for you the information you will need to write a CV at the highest level.

Writing a CV usually consists of 8 main parts:

  1. Personal information
  2. Profile/Summary
  3. Experience
  4. Education
  5. Military service
  6. Interests and achievements
  7. Languages, skills and references
  8. Availability of a car (driver's license) - we recommend

Personal information - includes:

  • Full name
  • Place of residence (if in a small settlement it is possible to write in brackets near which large city it is located)
  • Phone and email address

Profile/Summary:

You can add a resume, the purpose of which is to tell the employer, what positions you are considering and why you are a good fit for the job. This section is usually 3-4 lines long and summarizes your experience with job requirements.

Experience:

Seniority is recorded in reverse chronological order, from the current position and in reverse order. Write the name of the position and its requirements, the company in which you worked, and the period of work. If you have worked for a well-known company, you may want to mention this. If not, write a few words about the company's activities.

Pay attention to the description of the result that you have achieved in this place of work. Describe what you personally were strong and what was interesting for you.

Education:

The categories of education are also written in reverse chronological order. Years must be included, along with the degree, certificate, and name of the institution. If you graduated with honors, it is advisable to indicate this. If there are no academic degrees, indicate the matriculation certificate, the name of the educational institution and the specialty. If there is no enrollment, 12 years of study (or less) can be indicated. If you have a degree, it is not necessary to indicate achievements in high school.

If you are applying for your first post-learning job, you can move this section to the top of the document. In this case, it is recommended to describe your participation in extracurricular activities, your goals and results. If you are a moderator or leader of some important process at the university, this can also be indicated.

If you have additional education, training courses, certificates and programs, this should also be indicated.

Military service:

If you haven't served in the military, you can skip this part. If you've done National Service, this is the right place to point it out. If you served in the army, indicate the years, type of service and in which part.

If you are applying for your first job after the army, you can move this section to the top of the document. In addition, it is advisable to indicate what the military role required and what qualities you brought to fulfill the role from the best side. If you have served regularly, you may note this.

Important information!

If you have not completed military service, the employer is prohibited from discriminating on this basis.

Interests and achievements:

For example, if you are a member of a club or society, this may indicate that you enjoy meeting new people or are willing to share and receive new information. Here it is better to indicate something specific and important for work and understanding about you.

Languages, skills and recommendations:

In this section, we have mentioned language proficiency - at the level of reading/speaking/writing, in addition to the mother tongue.

Most vacancies today require prior knowledge of office programs (Word, Excel), it will not be superfluous to indicate them too. Find out which list of programs is recommended for the profession you are interested in and take the time to study them in order to replenish your knowledge and stand out more favorably with your CV.

If there are recommendations from previous works, then in this section it can be added that recommendations will be given upon request.

Important to remember!

The summary document is not permanent and changes depending on the relevance and requirements of the job. You can change the position of the categories in order of importance so that the reader is the first to pay attention to the details that are relevant to him. For example, if a license/vehicle is required for a certain position, this part can be moved to the beginning of the document.

Key points for writing a CV:

  • Write your own personalized cover letter that will make you stand out among the candidates and show the company that you are interested in the job.
  • CV should not be long - it should be one page.
  • Use words related to the result.
  • Use more keywords, program names - so you immediately pay attention to them.
  • Highlight your strengths.
  • If you are in a creative profession, you can vary your CV to showcase your skills (keep readability a priority).
  • If your profession allows you to create a portfolio for demonstration, be sure to add this item to your CV.
  • Be sure to proofread the document - errors and typos can make a negative impression.
