How to write the perfect LinkedIn tagline with this foolproof formula!

Why do some people's LinkedIn profiles get 1000's of views a month while others struggle to hit double digits? If you're struggling to hit 10, you're missing the most powerful sentence on your profile - a captivating tagline

String Nguyen made LinkedIn's Top Voice 2017 for her use of native video on LinkedIn. She produced her own show called "The String Report". So what makes String's headline stand out? She highlights her achievements! If you're searching for a professional in her field... that makes her STAND OUT in the crowd.

Shama Hyder has an impressive resume! She keeps her headline current and ends with a huge achievement "30 under 30" by both Forbes and INC!!! That alone would pique your curiosity and have you clicking to see her profile.

One of my favorite GaryVee taglines was "I day trade attention and build businesses!" Such a clever way to frame advertising. You're competing for your target markets attention... so what's that worth?

Use this 5 step formula to build the perfect tagline:

  1. What are your top 3 biggest accomplishments in your niche?
  2. What's your title?
  3. Whose attention do you want to grab?
  4. Build your tagline
  5. Test and Repeat!

What are your top 3 biggest accomplishments in your niche?

We've all had major accomplishments in our lifetime. What have you been recognized for? Did you win an award? If you're lost, ask a friend what they would recommend you for? Klout ranked me in the top 0.1% for social media. This adds credibility to my career as a Chief Revenue Officer as I leverage social media to attract qualified leads for clients!

What's your title?

This part is simple. Write down the title on your business card! If you're actively engaged in multiple businesses, consider which titles you want to be known for! Don't forget volunteer activities. Every experience teaches you different lessons. Hint: it's all about the story you tell (in your summary and work experience)!

Whose attention do you want to grab?

You have to think about your sales cycle. Whose attention do you need to get in order to start the process? It could be a sales manager, business owner, accountant, etc. Be clear! This tagline will be written for them. Consider what problem, pressing concern or desire you'll be appealing to.

Build your tagline

First list an accomplishment that adds credibility to your professional career. Next, list a short unique value proposition to your target customer. Last, add your title! Hint: Less is more

Test and Repeat!

I've written 100's of taglines and not everyone worked. I had to constantly keep testing to see how people reacted to it. Did my number of profile views increase or decrease? How many qualified leads messaged me last month? Writing a tagline isn't one of those things you can set and forget! I currently update my tagline at least once a quarter.

Don't get caught in the perfect trap! You can rewrite and polish all you want but... you won't know how people react until you put it in front of them.

If you need a hand, let me know!

See you tomorrow
