How To Write A (Good) Book In 30 Days

How To Write A (Good) Book In 30 Days

I've had some great calls and meetings in the last week, which proved something I've been saying for a long time.

NETWORKING, POSTING AND REFERRALS WILL NOT BUILD YOU THE BUSINESS AND LIFE OF YOUR DREAMS!

Today, every smart consultant or business owner needs to be building an ecosystem of online assets.

This will get prospects into your world and command their attention, free of competing influences that the crowded social media space presents.

Anyone who is serious about their growth needs to offer their clients the opportunity to go on a journey of online discovery - without you looking over their shoulder, as they're doing it.

For the most part, a website is not enough.

A website is like wandering into a shop as opposed to having a front row seat at a fashion show.

You're missing the magic.

Websites rarely dazzle in the same way as a spectacularly assembled funnel, You Tube channel or podcast, which are dynamic 'walls of content'.

They give your audience the opportunity to go deeper into your world and decide whether they like what they find there.

Evergreen content, like books, video channels and podcasts (which don't vanish daily, like social media posts or your presence at a networking event) allow people to discover you in their own time, and browse your content.

They can then evolve their interest until finally they get to the 'tipping point' where they feel compelled to reach out and connect with you in person.

When this happens, your experience as a seller of your services is RADICALLY different.

You have massively upgraded the selling environment to increase your perceived worth.

This gets your intended audience to truly understand your relevance and value to them.

This also creates a completely different experience for both the seller and the buyer from the traditional outbound or 'push' marketing - which starts with an approach from the seller.

It removes the need, as a consultant, business development lead or business owner, for artful sales conversations, and 'hard closing'.

You won't need a long and painful process of manual follow ups, that see your profits erode due to the cost and time of client acquisition, either. Not to mention the misery and uncertainty that comes from them squeezing your value in advance of a sale.

Your clients will never again be able to push you as far and as hard as they can, while simultaneously meeting with or speaking to a ton of your rivals.

Ever had that experience? Bet you have!! So have I (until I got wise and found the answer).

As long as you rely on networking and referrals to build your business, you will continue to operate within an unfavourable selling environment, where you run a high risk of losing out to your rivals, who your prospects THINK do what you do too.

What is evergreen content and how can I create it myself?

I'm a huge fan of the power of podcasts (my own, The Smart Connector is in the top 2.5% globally).

As well as my Ideal Client Success online programme and coaching offer, I am also currently building a new funnel product (Chosen First) which has generated hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide for those who have used it.

This is a turnkey client attraction system that features multiple videos, a report and a webinar which I am offering as a done for you service to others.

At the same time, and as the mechanism that underpins this, I am creating my Messaging Waterfall Method.

The Messaging Waterfall builds a congruent positioning, offer creation and language and messaging framework for your service based business. It also equips you with a powerful, shareable brand and messaging blueprint, to communicate your clear and exciting promise, and stand out for your value so your ideal clients choose you first.

(Oh by the way, in case you're wondering HOW I manage to do this all and run a business and make sales as well - which seems to be a question I get asked all the time) - let me reassure you:

(a) I do not work long hours, in fact I often start work after lunch.

(b) I have a team and hire people when I need to.

(c) I have a fantastic mentor who keeps me on track for the tasks I do need to do, whilst ignoring the ones that I don't.

Once you master the art of online business, an outcome like this can be yours too (if you want it, of course!)

Online business truly is a great way to design your dream business and life.

If you would like to find out more, why not register for my next live masterclass: https://masterclass.idealclientsuccess.com , or book a call here: ?https://idealclientsuccess.com/book-a-call

So now, let's look at books.

Why they build authority and reach, and how to write yours in 30 days or less (while you are also doing other things that matter to you.

First, why publish a book?

Publishing a (business) book has 5 main purposes today:

(a) It can be a container for your IP (intellectual property) which can then be re-purposed indefinitely, across multiple channels and in multiple different forms, over a period of time.

(b) It gives you the opportunity to command attention from your ideal audience and 'rent space in their brains' - on an exclusive basis, so they become familiar with the value you can offer them.

Once you have 'rented space in people's brains' for any significant period of time, you will only be there with their express permission.

This makes it far more likely they will then check you out and start to follow you in other environments (such as here on Linked In)!

(c) A book can also be a 'top of funnel' tripwire product for anything you might want to sell online.

(d) You can use it to build a massive following and pay for ads to sell those products.

Book funnels can be a self sustaining ecosystem.

The price of the book will generally fund the ads themselves, meaning you can build a large and fast growing audience at a really low cost (if that's something you want to do - it depends on your business model, of course).

(e) The 'ripple' effect of engaging with this process is an opportunity for you to improve your offer. It will sharpen your creative writing skills, and help you become a more powerful and impactful influencer in your space.

Now you want to know how I did it, right?

Maybe the sceptical part of you is thinking: 30 days?

That's just b/s - the finished product must be a bunch of c**p if she threw it together that quick!

I'll let you be the judge of that - but hopefully you can see if you regularly follow my content, that I am not in the business of producing c**p.

These days, producing c**p the fastest way to LOSE the attention of your dream clients and send them straight to others they THINK do something similar to you!

Long ago, books were written long form, on paper.

I remembering writing my university essays in this way and it was a really painful process.

In those days, I'm sure any book worth reading would take a looong time to write.

Authors didn't do much else. Of course, they were sometimes speakers or university lecturers.

They would rarely be mothers with children to care for, for example, which is why so much amazing wisdom and experience is missing from our history.

What a shame.

How To Never Get Stuck For Ideas, Or Lose Yourself In Procrastination.

Today we have many handy tools available to help us write our book, the principal one being our online connectivity.

This enables us to browse our marketplace, access the ideas of others, and repurpose them into content that has our own unique spin and flavour on it.

There is a huge difference, of course, between plagiarism and research.

Plagiarism is outright theft.

Plagiarism is the stealing of ideas without giving credit or value to the producer who has laboured over them, and unfortunately it's still rife today.

Clever content producers, however, know that they cannot produce something worth consuming in a vacuum.

Researching what others are saying on your topic and developing your unique point of view on the same, is where the process of writing and assembling your book begins.

Don't aspire to the standards of the best selling authors you most admire.

It will just lead to procrastination and comparison - which is the 'thief of joy' as Theodore Roosevelt famously said.

Instead, start now - get perfect later. Aspire to a 'shitty first draft' as Brene Brown once advised.

Get it done THEN go back and refine.

A 3 Step System For Writing Your Book In 30 Days Or Less.

So here is my simple 3 step system for writing a business book in 30 days or less:

(a) It all starts with a chief organising idea and name. Go to Amazon and research what books are being created on the topic you have chosen.

Check out the reviews, the readership and the 'big promise' of the sub-heading.

Create a sub-heading or positioning statement yourself, and try to make it as clear, captivating and imaginative as possible.

If you're not sure how to do this, make sure you book a call.

We create assets inside the Ideal Client Success programme and the Messaging Waterfall Method will help you dial in your offer and message to market.

It will take you a LOT longer if you are writing a book on a new topic.

The ONLY way you will be able to write your book in 30 days is if you know your subject inside out, and already have written and produced a ton of content to support this.

Then it just becomes an exercise in terms of pulling together and repurposing all the blogs, landing pages, articles and video content which you have ALREADY produced and REPURPOSING.

Next you should create your chapter headings on paper or in a Word or Google Doc document.

Alternatively you can use an online tools such as Scrivener.

This gives you the opportunity to save images, short notes and audio files.

You can easily move chapters and ideas around using the drag and drop cork board features, which reflect and support the creative process.

One tip I learned from my book coach when I wrote my first book The Smart Connector is to also use sub headings within each chapter.

This can also be very helpful for your reader as they can use your book for reference. It helps them navigate to the topics they like without necessarily having to read your end to end manuscript.

Some people are just not readers, so never take this personally!

(b) AUDIO RECORD using a transcription service rather than just write!

When I first found tools such as Otter.AI and Live Transcribe the speed of doing this just blew me away. Of course you do have to go back and edit afterwards.

In terms of a 'brain dump' there is nothing faster, and this will definitely help you get your book written in record time!

(c) EDIT and REFINE - there are some wonderful tools out there to help writers, including Hemingway, which claims to make your writing 'bold and clear'.

It has several useful features like a word counter and an automatic readability score. It also makes suggestions to help you improve your writing.

For example , it might highlight a complex passage that is hard to read and suggest an alternative.

However editing and refining within the 30 day window usually means working to improve your first and usually really bad finished draft.

You'll need to make it into a piece of work that actually makes sense.

This is not the final version and you will not be making advanced copy edits.

In fact at this point, you will probably be deciding your publishing options.

You will need to decide whether you want to engage editors, seek publishers or self publish in multiple formats.

Alternatively you could just use your book as an e-pub lead magnet.

Of course, there is no one size fits all answer to this.

In later editions of The Impactful Influencer Newsletter, I will look at the different publishing options available to you, and how to get your book out into your marketplace and working hard to bring exactly the right clients, straight to your door.

Very interesting post Jane. I agree with you that repurposing "evergreen" content from YouTube or Vimeo videos and podcasts is a great source of content for writing a book. The key is ensuring the published content is of value to your ideal client.
