How to write a CV!

How to write a CV!

Job search isn’t easy and what’s making it tougher is to have the right CV to apply for the job. The single most important document while applying for any job is CV. At one point or other, every applicant wonders, what is the one perfect CV format or design?

Let me tell you all, after reviewing and analyzing thousands of CVs, I must tell you all that there is no such thing as perfect CV format or design. Every job requirement is different, every applicant is different, so does the CVs.

Out there are numerous apps and websites which offers customizable templates to design your CV of choice, but again one need to know what to put on CV and what to emphasize on.

Here are some points to keep in mind while drafting a CV in the respective order;

1. Start with contact details;

A CV should start with current and correct contact information like full name, phone numbers, emails and website or professional profile links.

2. Personal statement;

Read the job profile carefully and then write a personal statement on your CV which matches to the job requirements.

3. Work Experience;

If you got any previous experience/s, then brush them up and mention them on your CV. Pay attention, they should be mentioned from latest to the earliest. Mind that you do not want to clutter your CV.

4. Mention Qualification;

Put the latest and the highest qualifications and any relevant certification or an additional degree which might pull the recruiters’ attention. Again, no need to put every detail.

5. Show those Skills;

Mentions all your skills which might directly or indirectly be related to the job. Keep it short, crisp and straight to the point. You do not want to bombard the interviewer with skills that you won't be able to back up with your qualifications, achievements or experiences.

6. Keep it Up-to-Date;

Make sure that you double check every information on your CV. Proofread and even better if someone can review it for you. You do not want any outdated or wrong information on the CV or any wrong spellings to say the least.

The length of the CV is another point to consider. Single page CV for any inexperienced applicant and two to three pages from moderate to long experienced professionals is the adequate length.

You would also like to keep in mind that one is not obliged to write his/her full home address, d.o.b/age, marital/civil status, children, ethnicity, religion, political bias and/or post his/her pic on the CV. Information on CV should be relevant only to the job you are applying for.

Writing a CV is a skill in itself and could cost one an opportunity if not done correctly. Always tailor the CV according to the job you are posting it for and keep it relevant to the requirements of the job.
