How to Write a Compelling CTA

How to Write a Compelling CTA

As a copywriter with over a decade of experience, one of my biggest pet peeves is boring calls-to-action a.k.a CTAs.

Now, I understand that writing an effective call to action can be challenging...

...especially if you're trying to strike a balance between being clear and compelling without sounding too pushy or salesy.

However, there are several ways you can make your CTAs more interesting and engaging.

And guess what? It's totally worth the effort!

The key is to create personalised CTAs rather than cookie-cutter CTAs that do nothing more than just occupying space.

Hubspot analysed over 330,000 CTAs to determine that personalised CTAs perform 202% better than non-personalised CTAs.

Moreover, personalised CTAs have conversion rates far above the average (typically 25-45% conversion rates across thousands of views and clicks.)?

How can you level up your CTA game? Let's take a look at a few tips.

Writing a Juicy CTA: Tips & Tricks

A CTA is a critical part of any marketing or advertising material.

It's the part that asks your audience to take a specific action, such as

...signing up for a newsletter,

...buying a product, or

...contacting you for more information.

Here are some tips on how to write an effective call to action:

1. Be clear and specific

Your call to action should be crystal clear in terms of what you want your audience to do.

Use specific language that leaves no room for confusion or ambiguity.

For example, "Click here to download our free e-book on digital marketing strategy."

2. Create a sense of urgency

Use phrases that create a sense of urgency, such as "limited time offer" or "act now."

This can help motivate your audience to take action right away.

For example, "Don't miss out! Register now for our limited-time-only workshop on content marketing."

3. Make it easy to follow through

Your CTA should be easy to follow through on.

For example, if you want your audience to sign up for a newsletter, provide a clear and simple form to fill out.

You may write something like:

"Enter your email address below to subscribe to our newsletter and get regular updates on the latest industry trends."

4. Use action-oriented language

Use verbs that inspire action, such as "subscribe," "download," or "register."

This creates a sense of momentum and motivates your audience to take action.

A good example is:

"Join our community of like-minded professionals and start achieving your goals today!"

5. Offer a benefit

Give your audience a reason to take action by highlighting the benefit of doing so.

For example, "Sign up now and get a free e-book" or "Register today for exclusive access to our upcoming webinar."

You can also write something longer and more detailed like:

"Sign up for our course and get access to exclusive tools and resources that will help you succeed in your career."

Here's another good example:

?"Click here to learn more about our product and start your free trial today. If you're not completely satisfied, we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee."

6. Test and refine

Finally, be sure to test different CTAs to see which ones are most effective.

Use A/B testing to compare different versions and refine your approach over time.

Key Takeaway

Remember, the specific wording and format of your call to action will depend on the context and goals of your marketing or advertising material.

However, by following these general principles, you can create CTAs that are clear, compelling, and effective at driving the desired action from your audience.

An effective call to action can be the difference between a potential customer taking action or moving on to something else.

With these tips, you can create CTAs that inspire action and drive results for your business.
