How To Write A Book In 7 Months
As you may know, writing a book probably won’t bring in a lot of passive income or amazing revenues.
It’s sad, but it’s true.
So why should you write a book? Why is everyone writing theirs now?
The first reason you should consider making this year your publication year is because it will feel really good. I believe that's most people's number one motivation, and I support it: you should feel good when you finish writing a book. It’s a big achievement, and if you’ve just written a health book, you’ve probably just changed the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people (if the book is well written and full of ideas that are simple to implement).
Not everyone can make a book work for them and will feel good once it has been published. If you don’t have a personal brand that is well-defined and likable, a timely idea, an interesting story to share, and you don’t understand your audience… disaster can ensue.
The good news? Now that you know what mistakes to avoid, the sky is the limit. All of the above is within most people's reach. This means that the time-frame doesn’t have to be “hopefully this year.” Grab the right support, and it’s easy to write a book in even as little as 90 days. Many of the entrepreneurs that attend my business school program have done just that as part of a challenge designed to push their businesses into a new dimension. Being able to say you’re an author does have a certain ring to it!
That is by far the main reason why everyone is writing theirs now: A great book can put you on the map as an expert in your field. Being an author adds to your prestige, it can give you an incredible sense of pride, and it can set you apart from other practitioners and experts.
The next reason is that it’s never been easier to get your work in front of your ideal client. Gone are the days when you needed a publisher to become a bestselling author, though you may choose to work with a publisher that specializes in launching and promoting health books like yours.
Have you ever considered writing a book, but immediately given up on the idea because the thought is simply too overwhelming? I know the feeling! I have been working on two books during the last few months as a ghostwriter and editor. Books are big projects. Luckily, that doesn’t mean they have to take all decade to write. In fact, seven months is all you need if you have the right support. How do I know? I’m a ghostwriter who writes every day without fail and can comfortably write one or two chapters per month.
If I wrote your book, I would use my 7-Month Health Book Completion System. The process will look like this:
1. MONTH 1: Branding and mindful messaging development
2. MONTH 2: Defining your chapters, plus writing Chapters 1 & 2
3. MONTH 3: Writing Chapters 3 & 4
4. MONTH 4: Writing Chapters 5 & 6
5. MONTH 5: Writing Chapters 7 & 8
6. MONTH 6: Writing Chapters 9 & 10
7. MONTH 7: A free book edit
Most accessible, bestselling non-fiction books have 10 chapters and are between 30,000 and 50,000 words in length, so each chapter should ideally be 3,000 to 5,000 words long, on average. That will create a book that’s between 120 and 200 pages in length. I recommend that your first book be shorter rather than longer. You can always add more content later by creating a new edition that includes updated information or additional sections for added value. Also, bestsellers are getting shorter.
I’ve spoken to a lot of nutritionists, functional medicine doctors, naturopaths, integrative physicians, health coaches, and supplement experts this month… And many are considering writing their first, second or third book. Will this year be the year you become an author?
