How To Win At The Game Of Life

Most people today are not getting what they want - not from their government, not from their families, not from their businesses, not from their religion, and most notably, not from themselves.

Something is missing in most of our lives and it’s not getting any better. Part of what’s missing is purpose. A clear identity. Personal values. Meaningful standards against which our lives can be measured. Part of what’s missing is a game worth playing – the game of life.

What’s also missing is a sense of connection. We are all suffering in isolation from one another without physical face time. In a world without purpose, without meaningful values, what have we to share but our emptiness - the needy fragments of our superficial selves?

As a result, most of us are drifting and scrambling about hungrily seeking new distractions. We pre-occupy ourselves with music, with television, with people, with drugs, with alcohol, with food. But most of all we seek things. Things to wear and things to do. Things to watch and things to eat. Things to fill the emptiness. Things to make up for our faltering sense of self. Things to which we can attach meaning, significance, life.

We’ve fast become a world of material things. And most people are being buried in the clutter. What most people need is a place of community that has order, purpose, and meaning.

A place in which being and acting human is necessary. A place where the generally disorganized and chaotic thinking within our culture becomes organized and clearly focused on a worthwhile result. A place where discipline, determination and will become cherished for what they are - the cornerstone of action, enterprise, and progressive realization. A place in which acting intentionally replaces living accidentally. A place that replaces the community most of us have lost.

That’s what your business can do. It can create a game worth playing. It can create a life worth remembering. The life you want, the relationships you want, the family that you want, is going to be fuelled by the business you build.

Your business can become that place of community. It can become that place where values such as intention, integrity, commitment, vision, and excellence can be used as steppingstones in the system for producing meaningful results.

However, constructing your business on a solid foundation is essential – it needs a well-designed blueprint. And that blueprint must start with your personal vision.

Your personal vision provides you with emotional alignment with your future desire and will help you overcome challenges and execute consistently. When tasks seem too big or overwhelming, you can overcome them by reconnecting with your vision. It is the emotional connection that provides you with the courage to keep moving ahead despite the difficulties so you can achieve your dreams and desires. We establish dreams by creating a picture of the future.

Artists have been painting pictures for centuries. The Egyptians painted the walls illustrating a prosperous future for their unborn Pharaoh depicting a fruitful life from birth to death. The Christians use stained glass to tell a story of their future. Success leaves clues! We need to follow their lead and create a picture of how we want to be remembered by the significant people in our lives before we build our business.

Once you have clear personal vision, then you can focus on your business. Your business vision needs to be a reflection of your personal vision. It is necessary to keep you motivated at an emotional level because the part of your mind running the show (your subconscious) is an emotionally driven system. It needs to be inspired into action, especially when change is necessary. And change is constant and inevitable but unpredictable.

The reason why you create your personal vision first is so that you can compare what you are doing now with what you will be doing in the future, because the conflict between the two is what causes meaning. To resolve this problem, you will have to bridge the gap from your current reality to your future vision. You will need to think differently and do different things so that you can realize the change you want to see.

One of the most important decisions you can make in getting to where you want to go is to make sure that you’re accounting for your time. Every day you should be creating memorable moments with the five most important communities in your life – your family, your friends, your colleagues, your customers, your community. Take a close look at your five highest priorities and determine whether these actions will create successful and memorable experiences or just keep you crazy-busy.

If you focus on the days’ actions that will move you one step closer to achievements that inspire you, you'll always have an atmosphere of positive energy and momentum—and the more successful and happier you'll become.

In “Living The Life Of Your Dreams,” book I explain the importance of designing your life with the end in mind so you’ll feel more in control of your circumstances and satisfied with your actions.
