How Wide is Your Career Path?

If you think of what your career path looks like, how would you describe it? Does it meander or go directly from Point A to Point B? Perhaps it looks more like a network or web of multiple connections. In all cases, it is important to understand how wide you want it to be. A narrow path will reduce options, but may help add clarity to reach a specific goal. A wider path will open many opportunities, and most likely increase your risks.
As I look back at my career path, it is quite wide. I have tapped into my strong learning agility capabilities to take on challenges most others would run away from. I am fortunate that I realized early in life that I can quickly study, analyze, and learn in order to solve business issues or to drive an organization forward. I have chosen to make my path wide in order to learn about many different types of organizations and job roles in order to use those experiences in my next role.
Take a moment to draw out your career path. Where is it going to take you next?
