How and Why Web3?
I have to say that one buzzword which is all over the internet and everyone is excited and some are doubtful about is Web3. Some are confused about where Web1 and Web2 have gone. I too was curious and so I thought about making the simplest guide about the journey from Web1 to Web3 and what are its benefits, drawbacks and purpose.
Before starting I must have to say one thing the Internet is the most important and impactful invention of all of the history of humankind so far and its evolution is inevitable. We’re on Web2 right now, Web3 will succeed it. The Internet going into another stage doesn’t mean there’s a change to the actual infrastructure of the Internet.
Web1:- Web 1.0 was the very first state of the Internet. Web1 was roughly from 1991 to 2004. It was mostly known as the?static web.?Meaning that the web pages were only available in ‘write-and-publish’ or ‘read’ mode. There was no way for people to interact with the network and give it inputs like we now do on social media and shopping sites. Consider it like Wikipedia but you could only read it and are unable to add any information by your side.
Web2:- The term Web2 was came into the picture in the years around 2004, We are currently on Web2 It was the change from static websites to interactive platforms where the users are the ones providing the content. Like on Facebook we users mostly provide content on the platform. The more these websites and apps were used, the better they got and the more people wanted them. But it is in exchange for our data, like email, phone number, name, and sometimes even address.
Web3:- Web3 is here but we haven't transitioned on it and one reason is its somewhat complex nature of it(Not generalizing). You may ask what is the need for fancy Web3 when we are quite good with Web2 but one reason I mention at the end of the Web2 section is our data and privacy. You are giving all this information that makes up who you are on the Internet to big companies that have no way to prove they aren’t selling your information or using it in a way it wasn’t meant to be. Web 3 is partly the product of issues concerning privacy like these. Web3 is, in a simple form, made up of?open, trustless,?and?permissionless?networks. If I have to say one agenda that Web3 fulfill is Decentralization and we will underdsatnd its importance in some time.
Benefits of Web3:-
1)Control Your Online Identity:- ?You can choose whom to give your information is possible only on Web3 and decentralized internet.
2)Part not product on internet:- Well if you’re not buying anything, and you’re not selling anything, then?you are the product.
3)Ownership of your things:- Bringing the value to your virtual items?which can be covered in NFT and you can monetize that.

4)Decentralization:- No one-two companies have the monopoly and more power. Everyone will have their say in the true sense. It will democratize the internet.
5)Transparency:- Everything will be on blockchain and no one will be able to hide or manipulate anything. Transparency is the source of trust and a robust system.
6)Censorship resistance:- It is a tricky but largely great thing as no one has any right to block any person just because you don't like his politics, ideology, or for any other reason.
There are more reasons to like Web3 but I do think these are enough and I don't believe in one side agenda. Everything has many sides and shades of grey(not fifty). We have to admit the downsides of Web3 and some are not proper downsides but in my opinion as there are not as many downsides as I thought.
Downside of Web3:-
1)Complexity:- Now this depends on person to person, one who is an expert or tech enthusiast will find this silly but I do believe most of people are not adopting because they find it hard to navigate through wallets and private keys and all that stuff.
2)Barrier:- Web3 will make use of semantic data, 3D graphics, and more. Likely, less advanced devices will not be able to handle Web3. Users will need a device that has above-average specifications to use Web3.
3)Regulations: Some experts also believe that decentralization will lead to difficulties in monitoring and regulating Web3. As a result, we could see a rise in cybercrimes.
We are at a point which will decide not only a few years but generations because it is the biggest transition in the greatest technology mankind ever created. Do let me know your thought about this article and Web3 in general.
