Video SEO is often overlooked. Though it is extremely important. After all Youtube, LinkedIn or any platform offering search feature is a search engine. Therefore you need to optimize the titles and descriptions of your video content diligently. Here is how :
The title is often the first thing viewers see, and it’s critical for both engagement and ranking. Here’s how to create a title that boosts visibility and clicks:
- Conduct Keyword Research: Use tools like Google Trends, YouTube's search suggestions, or platforms like Ahrefs and SEMrush to discover popular keywords relevant to your topic. Look for terms that have a high search volume but are relevant to your video’s content.
- Avoid Keyword Stuffing: SEO specialists advise against cramming titles with too many keywords. Focus on making it readable, clickable, and engaging.
- Keep It Concise: Platforms like YouTube and TikTok often limit title length (e.g., YouTube’s title limit is 100 characters, but only about 60 characters display). Stick to 60-70 characters to ensure your full title appears without getting cut off.
- Use Emotional Triggers: Words like “ultimate,” “easy,” “proven,” or “complete guide” often grab attention. Consider what will make a user want to click.
Your description provides context to both viewers and search engines. Here’s how to make it as effective as possible:
- Include Keywords Naturally: Keywords should appear naturally within the first 100-150 characters. YouTube, for example, only displays the first 150 characters before cutting off, so lead with the most important information and keywords.
- Provide a Summary of the Video Content: Summarize what viewers will gain or learn from the video. Highlight key points or unique features, so they know exactly what to expect.
- Add Timestamps for YouTube: Timestamps make it easy for viewers to jump to sections of the video that are most relevant to them. YouTube also values timestamped content because it improves viewer retention.
- Include Relevant Links: For YouTube and LinkedIn videos, you can add links to related content, sources, or even a call to action leading to your website or social channels.
- Add Hashtags: On platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Reels, adding a few relevant hashtags in the description can increase discoverability. Aim for around 3-5 relevant tags per video.
