I am not a trader, but an investor in stock market. I invest in a stock for long term and only when I believe in it's fundamentals.
Though I am not able to be a personal user of the products of each of these stocks, I do try to consume them as and when possible.
e.g. I use Airtel for my mobile and broadband needs and have stocks of Airtel, Biscuits from Britannia etc.
Intention here being my contribution in helping the stock value grow in some way, however minor the contribution it might be and its impact on the stock value.
Now, how is this related to the question I asked at the start?
It's simple.
You do whatever, however small it might be, you think, would help with the #branding and #identity of the company and it need not be limited to your day to day work.
e.g. Members from Engineering team need not only restrict themselves to building good products. Your shares, likes and comments on a company post, spreading good things about your organization, refering potential candidates to open positions in your company etc..
and that is what I exactly do for my startup iMocha.
Simple, Isn't it?
and now the question arises, why should you ?
A win:win is necessary for any relationship. In this case, you help your startup win and you need to win as well from your tenure with it.
Increasing the brand and value of your startup is a win for the startup and so what is a win for you?
? You have ESOP / RSUs - This is self-explanatory. As the startup grows, so do the ESOP / RSUs value and so does your portion.
? Now incase you still want to find other opportunities - your prospects for better opportunities grow since you are coming from a growing known startup.
? You don't have ESOP and you are not looking outside - Won't you feel proud when your friends / relatives know and talk positively about the startup you are working with. e.g My friends and relatives have seen the video of the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's video talking about the #innovation at iMocha and they keep referring to that in our discussions.
Simple reasons. Aren't they ?
Unfortunately most of us during their tenure do not think about this.
So now that you know, and found #motivation to help your startup grow, how would you add to the #success?
