How White Did Your Roads and Sidewalks Get?
Attention Midwest and North:
How white have your roads been lately? You know, how much salt residue is on your streets, highways, even sidewalks? And how high is the pile of snow and salt plowed up against the concrete curbs?
That white stuff is a thick layer of salt residue... so thick in my area (Chicago suburbs) that I can't see the markings on the road. That salt will not go away when it rains... instead, it will be carried down into the slab by the rainwater and start eating away at your concrete-- from the inside.
Salt is acidic... which is great for ice and snow, but wreaks havoc on the concrete roads, bridges, and sidewalks where it is distributed to make for safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians. As melting ice turns to water, the salts follow the water down into the concrete and go right to work, deteriorating the chemical structure of the slab and causing much of what you will see when spring comes-- surface erosion, softness, crumbling, flaking...
No concrete is impervious to this inevitable failure if left unprotected. Adding a densifier/hardener like CreteDefender P2 will protect your concrete from chloride and salt penetration, and even keep water from getting down in the slab. P2 is easy to apply, and brings a proprietary blend of surfactants which insures penetration and surface distribution- vital for protecting your roads, bridges, and sidewalks.
