How do you do it and when is the best time to do it.
Stories are hugely powerful and people relate so well to them. If you find you are with a prospect and they are struggling with something. Using a story to explain how to get through the struggle can be hugely valuable to your client.
Let me give you an example,
"Well, Charlotte your program sounds great but I just don't have the money."
"Okay Fred you know not so long ago I was in your position and I was faced with a life changing decision really, I mean when I look back at it now it was a life changing decision.
I had wanted to get some private mentorship with a top coach. The reason I wanted to do that was because my business was failing and I didnt have any money.
So I was stuck in a bit of a conundrum because, as you well know, one on one mentorship with a successful business person is not cheap, $20K infact!
I knew it would get me to my goals yet in my current position it wasnt affordable! I was sssoooooo frustrated and it felt so unfair! If someone would just help me be successful, then I could give them the money! Do you know what I mean Fred?"
"Oh yes Charlotte, thats exactly how I feel too."
"So do you want to know how I got through that and to where I am now, comfortably earning that infamous $10K PM, sometimes more in fact!"
"Sure."
"It was quite simple really and as strange as it sounds I made a decision. Rather than over thinking it and thinking that is was just unaffordable and resigning myself to the fact that it just wasnt going to happen.
I did the opposite!
I was absolutely determined that I was going to find the money from somewhere.
I sort of gave myself a kick up the butt because I started thinking about my horrible 9-5. I started thinking about being in this same position a year from now and it was unbearable! You know what it really made me realise.
I had to do it!
As weird as it sounds, that real decision gave me a new found confidence.
I still had the same problem, I didn't have the money, BUT, I knew that I was going to do something.
So, I spoke to my dad, whom I have never borrowed money from before and with my new confidence was able to persuade him to lend me $5K. A start!
I put down my deposit and began the program.
I had NO IDEA how I was going to get the following installments
BUT I was determined.
4 months after that decision I hit $10K.
Yep! I had done many other programs before and wasted so much money, but this, this happened. That one life changing decision."
Now you wait, wait for the response. How did you feel reading it? Inspired? Just a little more determined?
Imagine being the authority on that call too. It not only give them a sense of hope and a sense of safety that they can take a leap of faith but also it edifies you as a leader.
Now that is my own personal story and if you dont have a story like that you can borrow one and be authentic that its not yours, for example,
"Well, you know Tony Robbins didn't have any money when he first invested in himself etc etc."
So, if you dont know Tony Robbins's story go find out what it is so you can use it. Use either yourself OR someone who is prolific in your area. Not someone that they dont or are unlikely to know.
