How we’re delivering Better Health at Work for our colleagues

The benefits of happy, healthy and engaged colleagues are endless. However, the benefits are not our motivation. We want all colleagues to feel supported during their employment with us - to enjoy a good work-life balance, to feel confident and supported when moving through different personal and work transitions, and to be well informed about health and wellbeing issues, including financial and digital wellbeing.?

At Karbon we encourage colleagues to prioritise their health and wellbeing and after achieving the Silver Better Health at Work Award in 2021, we’re working hard to achieve Gold level this summer. ?

One of the ways we’re doing this is by maintaining our focus on mental health, an area our colleagues have told us they value support in. We’ve purchased premium access to the Headspace app for all our colleagues. We’re also planning the introduction of Mental Health First Aiders later this year.??

To strengthen our approach and keep us on track, we’re currently in the process of developing a three year health and wellbeing strategy.??

Our Health Advocates?

We launched our Health Advocates group in 2020 and over the past two years the group has gone from strength to strength.?

We have 12 Health Advocates from various areas of the organisation, who meet every six weeks to chat about upcoming wellbeing campaigns we can get involved in, and support with the development and delivery of these campaigns throughout Karbon.??

Trained by a Workplace Health Specialist from Better Health at Work, the Health Advocates have been key in making sure the work we do to support colleague wellbeing is in line with what our colleagues want and need.?

The Better Health at Work Award?

The Better Health at Work (BHAW) Award recognises the efforts of employers across the North East and Cumbria in addressing health issues within the workplace.?

A culture that prioritises happy and healthy colleagues really helps us perform, as it allows colleagues to better support our customers when it comes to helping them build a strong foundation for life. ??
