Larry Levine’s one thing to create a positive work culture might be outside your current strategies.
Do you have a strategy with your sales team beyond, “Go sell more?”
Authenticity carries various nuances to different persons. Larry summarizes it as the opposite of an empty suit.
You know an empty suit. Looks good on the outside. Nobody home on the inside. Or, if there is somebody home, you can’t find them. They play hide-and-seek with you. They dodge your tough questions and evade your challenges.
Instead, authenticity fills the suit. And with more than fluff; with consistency. What you see is what you get. The talk matches the walk.
The work world whispers the opposite. “Tell him what you need to and get the sale” and “Overpromise her. She won’t remember. And even if she does, you don’t have to.”
This deceit is the sure path to a Kevin culture; one filled with toxicity and inauthenticity. The path leads to ruin—individual and corporate. You may get by for a while, but it isn’t sustainable.
Since authenticity is counter-cultural, Larry’s one thing is essential. What you pay attention to grows. Pay attention to authenticity. Train your sales leaders in coaching for it. Set development expectations and benchmarks. Mentor it. Proactively move it throughout the sales organization using Larry’s pod strategy. This is the way to create a more sustainable company.
As Larry said on this podcast, “Soft skills yield hard dollars.”
