How Will We Work When All This Is Over?
The future of ‘How We Will Work When All This Is Over’ is something that has me intrigued. I’m fortunate to work for a firm that offers flexible ways of working and pre Covid -19 would WFH once a fortnight-ish.
Now I'm at home full time, I start to think - will I be able to adapt back to being in an office every day? (the Hair, the Make-up, the Ironed Shirts, the Commute!) And now see myself continuing to WFH a couple days a week. Our technology has kept up with most of us now at home (YAY) and we have slid into a routine of work/walks/webex.
I think what I miss most about being in the office though are those corridor conversations or water cooler chats, that can quickly resolve an issue, whereas currently a Webex/ZOOM/ Teams call needs to happen. Those ad hoc conversations do so much for establishing and improving relationships. I also find we learn so much more about the wider business with Activity Based Working, sitting with different teams.
So I ask you – how do you see yourself working ‘When All This Is Over’. Will you go back to the office full time or do you see yourself mixing it up more?
Did your firm allow flexible working previously and how will they react?
What are you missing about being in the office?

4 年This is a time for a wonderful change! While I have been fortunate to work as flexibly as I so wish for several years, for many companies, adopting remote working has filled them with dread! My hope is that organisations do a review with their staff in terms of how they want to move forward afterwards. What has worked well? Not worked not so well? How do we ensure connectivity with the fun, watercooler chats, but also allow time for work-life balance? I miss the coffee catch-ups, and the energy and vibe that can be created in a positive, office environment. On the flip side, when I work from home, I love the ability to have a lie-in but start the day on time and avoid the commute!
