How We Work
Anna Burke
Director @ Animated Technologies Ltd | Exploring innovative ways to showcase technology
I think most of the uncertainty of getting an animation, VR (Virtual Reality) or AR (Augmented Reality) experience delivered is the uncertainty of who that company is, will they create a product that does what they say it will do, and what will that process be like.
So here is an insight in to how Animated Technologies works.
Initial Meeting
This may be the longest one we do as we need to find out who you are, who your target market is, what you need, as in the end product, where will it be used… and many more questions a bit like this. If it’s a product we are promoting then we’ll need to ask how it works so best be ready with the NDA’s.
There is a really good reason why we ask so many questions like this. With any product promotion you can't truly promote it unless you know what your target audience wants to see. This is the same for all marketing materials.
Ok next step we put it all in a cauldron and stir, if only! Maybe just a mental cauldron.?
Visualisation Guide
Next we come up with a visualisation guide. It’s a bullet point list that describes what will happen in each scene and how we get across your point you are trying to make.
Whether you are getting a technical animation or a virtual reality training session, having a guide as to what will happen and when is important. You are mapping out that initial route.
Once everyone is happy with this we move onto the storyboard.
Storyboarding
A storyboard is just like a comic book. It shows a sketch of a picture in a sequence. What we also do with this is add what will be said alongside the picture if a voice over is required for the animation.
If we are creating a VR or AR experience this storyboard section would be called a wireframe. A low fidelity wire frame can look like a rough sketch. A high fidelity wireframe is a more polished version of that sketch, which maps out the user experience the VR, AR or mobile application. Much like the below.

We also create the script at a similar time as the storyboard and visualisation. Those processes all work together.
Styling
Once the visualisation, script and storyboard has been approved we make sure we have the right styling for the video.
Then bring it all together in a draft version of the digital experience.
Now, there may be some amendments needed that you only see once it’s all brought together, and that’s absolutely fine. It is difficult to see it all working together without seeing the visuals. But that is why we do this process.
We make can make small amendments to the script and animation, but if we have to re-do a big bit then it will cost ya. Only joking, but kind of not :)
If we do have to go back to a previously approved step we can, but this does increase the time it takes to complete the project.
But if there are just small changes to the visuals of the animation etc we can amend then deliver your digital experience in any format you wish. Bilingual, multilingual, set-up for social media profiles, super high definition and subtitles. You name it, we can do it.
So hopefully this helps you a bit to understand what we do and how we do it.
