How we *think* we’re being ourselves when we’re actually not..

What I’m about to say in this newsletter might make you pull back a little bit, but stay with me… Change needs to start somewhere so bare with me.
When you are confident enough to un-apollegetically say your truth, people not only appreciate the heck out of that… But It creates security & a subconciously trusting interaction that few people create… ?
Here’s why few people know how to do this… ?
The way that we are taught to interview can be a bit disingenuous.? ?
Like we are told to hide certain things… In fear of being “judged” and not hired. ?
We’re told to “hide reasons why we were laid off, even when it wasn’t our fault” out of fear of people not believing you…? ?
We’re told to Hide the fact that we’re pregnant,?
or HIDE the fact that we’re LOOKING FOR WORK by NOT posting the green banner on Linkedin… ?
Or HIDE the resume gap somehow!
We’re told to NOT be who we are in these moments. We’re taught to be Embarassed about our journey so much that we should lie about it to get hired!?
Yet then we’re also told to “Just be yourself!” Which is a complete contradiction of the above:? ?
So I want to have this conversation.? ?
What do you need to believe about yourself to have an “eyes wide open” conversation with a potential hiring manager? ?
How would we need to show up?
I come across linkedin posts All the time from people asking how to talk about their layoff if it was a “no cause” situation but they only had positive performance reviews…?
Or if they should disclose their pregnancy etc. ?
And people Literally hand out the Majority of advice saying to hide it, to skirt the issue, to not be upfront.? ?
“Just say some bullshit line to get out of telling the truth.”? ?
I am confused to see the responses from other people telling us to hide so much of ourselves. ?
Here is why I completely disagree with this and it makes no sense to me:
When we hide things we start a relationship off with a lie.? ?
We become part of the problem when it comes to being laid off, pregnant, having a gap on our resume etc.? ?
We perpetuate these as things to be embarrassed about.? ?
WHO Decided that these things were problems or embarassements? ?
SERIOUSLY WHO Decided? (holy cuss words)...? ?
If ANY employer is going to USE your pregnancy, your layoff, your employment gap AGAINST YOU, then what will that relationship even look like moving forward and in the long-term?
The real work is to ask this: ?
What would you need to believe about your value, your current qualifications, your current experience to know that you can land the job by BEING Honest about who you are? ?
First of all Being transparent like this is something people RARELY do.? ?
Because of how we’re taught.? ?
So it stands out and people Highly respect you and trust you right away. ?
It’s Freaking REFRESHING. ?
Your Thoughts and beliefs about your value speak loudly here. ?
?? If you believe you have to hide something about you that’s real.
?? If you believe you have to lie about something in order to get hired.
?? If you have any inclination that “they might not like this and therefore not think you’re enough”
This is a BIG Glaring sign that you have not truly identified your real value.?
You may think you have… but you haven’t. ?
I mean THE REAL value that exceeds the amount for which you will ask to be paid.?
Choose to give the people you’re potentially spending hours a week with for years of your life the whole package. ?
Now to be clear I’m not saying Air out all your dirty laundry like you just don’t care, no.

But I’m saying if you’re pregnant don’t make that a problem just because society or some guy, decided for all of us that this was a problem.
If you were laid off, don’t make that a problem just because you think others will make it a problem…? ?
I love coaching on this topic I’m actually creating a new masterclass in the new year on this topic as many of you have told me you have shame around being laid off.? ?
If you have a gap on your resume, Ugggg this is the one that frustrates me because it has NOTHING to do with your capability!?
So what would you truly need to believe about your ability to contribute value that exceeds the amount you’re asking… AND show up as the most honest transparent, human to human place? ?
Whatever you are not transparent about will eventually show up in the relationship.
And lying, or hiding it can potentially either prevent that relationship from starting anyway, or start it on a wrong foot. ?
Either way it’s a lose lose. ?
When you are honest and transparent, you welcome your best advocates into your life, whether that be a hiring manger, a friend or a new person you’re dating. ?
WE ARE ALL HUMANS, we can all smell Bullshit. ?
You get the most out of and create the best relationships when you start with upfront honesty.? ?
People will seek you out because your courage, your authenticity, will create a reputation that will speak for you. ?
You will attract only the highest value opportunities. ?
You will lead the way by creating a way for employers to respect honesty in interviews. ?
WE have to believe that there is better out there or we wil never find it or attract it. ?
Not if we keep interviewing and being embarrassed of who we are.
Just like you want to be honest about the mistakes you’ve made and what you’ve learned and how they are things you can be proud of.? ?
Same with layoffs, same with being pregnant and same with gaps, (NOT that these are mistakes, far from!) but in the same way, they are proud moments that make you you.?
Decisions you make along the way make you you.? ?
Don’t hide them.? ?
Own them.? ?
Stand up for yourself. ?
Have your own back. ?
Ask them hard questions. ?
A lot of the value of being inside the Six-figure curriculum walls comes from being in the online spaces, both on Linkedin, Facebook and Zoom.? ?
