How We Spent World Mental Health Day

Monday was World Mental Health Day, and Alteryx celebrated by giving employees a day off to enjoy something they love, recharge, and reflect on their mental well-being.

At Alteryx, mental health is something we want employees and their leaders to be mindful of every day – whether that’s through hybrid or flexible work environments, giving free Headspace subscriptions, or offering our Global Employee Support counseling program. We also have monthly “Focus Fridays”, a meeting-free day, during which people have the opportunity for learning, development, time to focus, and better mental health.

Sometimes, though, it’s great just to take a day off. So, Alteryx employees across the globe stepped away from work on Monday for a wide variety of activities. Here are some of the things we did.

Georgia Shearman, People Operations Coordinator, London

“Thank you, Alteryx, for acknowledging Global Mental Health Awareness Day. I took the opportunity to relax and get some much-needed Vitamin D in sunny Lanzarote with my sister. I’m proud to work for a company that prioritises the mental well-being of its employees and allows us the space to recharge our batteries.”

Yoshi Sogabe, Manager, Sales Engineering, Tokyo

“I have grapes, lemons, blueberries, and yuzu (citrus) in my garden. Taking the time to slow down and really take care of them was a nice change of pace for me. And it was perfect timing because it is right around grape harvest time. Although many of the grapes were eaten by birds, ants, and wasps, I managed to harvest about five bunches.”

Doug Morgan, Sr. Director, Software Engineering, Boston

“I spent our mental health long weekend with the family up in New Hampshire. We visited a local farm where we got to go on a hayride, do a corn maze and pick pumpkins. We also spent a full day at StoryLand, which was incredible for the kids, and went for a hike!”

Laura Groshans, Public Relations Manager, Oregon

“I spent the long weekend cooking and getting my house ready for Halloween! My giant Maine Coon cat Reggie is the perfect Halloween mascot. I am so thankful Alteryx gave us the day off to slow down and prioritize our mental health (and so is Reggie).”

I went on a 12-hour walk from a trail outside my front door and meandered through the foothills of Boulder. I will post some photos. Thank you Alteryx.
