How we run and transform our company ...

An eventful start of the year lies behind, and a new era with ambitious goals is ahead. Following our renaming to Mercedes-Benz Group AG, we gave ourselves a new slogan in IT: “We run and transform Mercedes-Benz ..." as we are not only pursuing IT transformation, but are driving the transformation of the entire company. During one of my recent virtual townhall meetings, I asked my team to breathe life into the slogan by completing the sentence with their respective contributions – and I am impressed by the variety of input shared already. Today, I am utilizing our slogan to share some of my priorities for 2022:

... by driving four Game Changers

Transforming the company is reaching into four areas. By working closely together on our Game Changer projects we are driving this transformation and will continue to do so in the upcoming months and years.

... by reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint

Our ambition is to be CO2-neutral by 2039. In IT we are making our contribution by reducing our energy consumption by operating our data centers 100% CO2 neutral by 2025. This includes merging data centers and greatly reducing the total number. Large, modern data centers have significantly better energy efficiency than small ones that are spread all over the place. We are also moving our high-performance data cluster to the far north of Europe. For one thing, it's cold there, so we don't have to cool as much. For another, the energy we need there is truly green, be it from wind or water power.

... by setting new standards with Project2Product

Project2Product is the perfect example of how we are moving away from silos to new capabilities. This way, we generate more value for the company and can combine multiple skills to work even faster and more efficiently on projects and flexibly allocate strengths. In 2021, we already set up product organization blueprints to bundle our skills across the company. This year we are going to further pursue the approach.

As said, these are some of my priorities for the upcoming months and I am looking forward to receive even more substantial input from my team. However, I am also curious about your priorities for the upcoming months... How do you drive the transformation of your company??

I really like how you are putting sustainability in IT as a priority. I feel like that is a topic often overlooked and I think emerging it into our transformation process is great!
