How we put the "S" in ESG over Christmas

Now that the Christmas period is over and we’re in a brand new year, it is the perfect time to reflect on how we implemented ESG with our clients in 2022.

ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) has always been a focus of ours when running campaigns for clients we provide our marketing services to, and the Christmas period is one time when this could be put to its full potential.

We ran ESG campaigns up and down the country, from East London to The Wirral in Merseyside. In Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, we supported cerebral palsy charity Stick n’ Step with our Give a Gift campaign, where we asked shoppers to donate a present for children across the Wallasey region.

A life-size giving box was installed in the Centre, available for shoppers to drop toys in from 14th November – 18th December, in which the toys were then collected by members from the charity and distributed to children living with cerebral palsy.

Stick ‘n’ Step fundraiser, Rhianna McDermott, commented: “We simply couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the stack of gifts that had been donated by local people in Wallasey! I would like to say a great big thank you to the whole team at Shoppertainment Management for organising it all, and of course to everyone who so kindly gave a gift”

In East London, we ran a similar campaign, which saw another life-sized present box being installed in the middle of the Stratford Centre, to encourage shoppers to donate unwanted/unused toys to be distributed across the borough at Christmas time.

The charity we supported for this was Iron Food Banks, who work with Ambition Aspire Achieve in Canning Town and support their annual Recorder Christmas Toy Appeal. Over the last two years, the charity themselves have distributed over 32,000 treats, and know that Christmas 2022 was harder for some children to get what’s on their wish list due to the Cost of Living crisis that the country is tackling.

Further down south, in Fareham, Hampshire we supported the Santa for a Senior campaign at Fareham Shopping Centre, for a second year running. Santa For A Senior supports elderly members of the community by giving them gifts at Christmas.

This wonderful initiative was supported by Fareham shoppers and the wider community by kindly donating gifts in our life size present donation box that was installed in the centre, from 20th November – 19th December. The presents were wrapped by volunteers from local charity One Community. They were then distributed to various community groups in the local area.

Marilyn White, One Community, Volunteer and Community Development Coordinator, commented:

“One Community was very happy to help with the Give a Gift campaign. Our team of volunteers gave their time to help with the coordination and the wrapping of the gifts. As always, the generosity of the public was amazing, especially in these uncertain times.”

Keeping the trend going in the South, the Harpur Centre in Bedford saw the return of its community initiative, in collaboration with Heart Radio, The Wishing Tree. The Tree was installed in the Centre from mid-November to 18th December, to allow shoppers time to give back at Christmas, for those who are less privileged.

Samantha Laycock, Centre Manager at the Harpur Centre, commented:

“The Wishing Tree is a returning community initiative which we are so proud to have again, here at Harpur. It’s important now more than ever to make sure everybody has a happy Christmas.”

Back up north in Lancaster, we helped Marketgate Shopping Centre support local charity Father’s House, by installing a ‘Giving Box’ in the shape of a life-sized present box, outside popular retailer Primark. We encouraged shoppers to donate non-perishable food and confectionary items, to help families in need at Christmas.

The Giving Box was available in the Centre from mid-November to 16th December, allowing shoppers and members of the public ample time to donate before Christmas Day.

Sarah Harrison, Centre Manager for Marketgate Shopping Centre commented:

“We are thrilled to share all of the Christmas events and competitions with the local community, we are especially looking forward to working with Father’s House to provide donations to those in need.”

Throughout 2023, we have many ESG campaigns lined up to support our clientele. If your business is interested in working with us to explore ESG possibilities, send us an email or a direct message to start the ball rolling!
