How We Deliver: We Understand Our Customers

In order to better understand how Cubic’s Global Defense teams are supporting our customers, I recently hopped on a plane and spent a week in Europe visiting our key sites. The UK MoD is one of our core customers and I was particularly interested to know what the post BREXIT future might look like.

Cubic has been delivering instrumented live training through the Area Weapons Effects Simulator (AWES) for over 20 years, but more recently the UK has been a key innovation hub for Cubic Global Defense and our staff have used their innate understanding of the customers’ needs to conceive, develop and manufacture some truly ground-breaking training capabilities.

The exploitation of expeditionary high capacity LTE networks has allowed us to deliver multi-domain Live Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training at the tactical edge for the British Army in the UK, Canada and Kenya. I saw how, within the UK’s SCOPIC Synthetic Wrap contract, a Cubic ecosystem of coherent air and ground capabilities deliver the unparalleled level of tactical immersion commanders and specialist operators need if they are to train effectively for the high-end fight.

Multi-domain means just that, and in order to address the lack of a tactically deployable indirect fire training system, Cubic Global Defense developed an applique capability which can be fitted to in-service howitzers and mortars. This blue-ocean innovation exploits the Cubic LTE ecosystem to provide a platform agnostic, full task, indirect fire training capability for the detachment, their commanders and the logistic chain which is able to meet the full spectrum of the training requirement.

In support of the Royal School of Artillery, Cubic Global Defense is delivering a Concept Capability Demonstrator on six L118 howitzers for the British Army and I am pleased to say that I was put through my paces on the system by the Master Gunner!

I left the UK after three very full days with the Cubic Global Defense team and the customer.

My assessment: Not only are we delivering on our current commitments, but we have a detailed understanding of the future requirements and are innovating at pace to ensure we can provide our warfighters with the capabilities they require.
