Hello and happy Sunday,
Last week I experienced it again with myself. I had to make a major professional decision. And instead of approaching the matter with clarity and reflection, I sabotaged myself in the best possible way.
It took some time before I realized what I was doing and stopped doing it. But just a few years ago, I wouldn't have noticed the self-sabotage and would have believed every single one of my thoughts 100 percent.
Do you want to be successful and balanced in your career?
Then you not only have to deal with the challenges on the outside, but also with the challenges on the inside. Because there may be obstacles hiding in your head that are preventing you from achieving your goals.
Tip 1: Question your beliefs
Your beliefs are convictions you have about yourself, the world and life. They influence the way you think, feel and act. If you are not successful in your career, it is worth scrutinizing your beliefs. Do you perhaps have beliefs that are getting in your way? For example: - "Everyone can do what I can do." - "My performance is already recognized, I don't need all this self-marketing." - "As a manager, everything is political, I don't feel like it." - "As a manager, you don't have any free time."
If you discover such beliefs in yourself, you can replace them with new, more positive beliefs. For example: - "I only exist once. My experiences are unique." - "My bosses don't have telepathic powers, I help them to see my performance" - "As a manager, I can set priorities and boundaries."
Tip 2: Learn to deal with negative thoughts
Negative thoughts are completely normal. Everyone has them from time to time. However, they can block you if you can't control them. If you have negative thoughts, it's important not to suppress them. Notice them and ask yourself what they are trying to tell you. Perhaps they are trying to tell you something important. Once you have found out what the negative thoughts are trying to tell you, you can constructively resolve them. For example, you can say to yourself: - "This thought is not helpful. I'd rather focus on the positive." - "This thought is just a passing emotion. I'm not going to pay attention to it." - "This thought is just an interpretation of reality. I will look for another interpretation myself."
Tip 3: Set yourself ambitious but realistic goals
If you set yourself unrealistic goals, you will sooner or later become frustrated. This can lead to you giving up. Therefore, set yourself goals that you can realistically achieve. Important: Set up a system with which you can track these goals. Once you have achieved a goal, you can reward yourself. This will motivate you to keep going.
Brakes on success in our minds can prevent us from achieving our goals. If you want to overcome these brakes, you need to question your beliefs, learn to deal with negative thoughts and set yourself realistic goals.
