How we build for customers on Google’s Ads UX team

Finding creative ways to keep users top of mind
Understanding user needs goes beyond analyzing data or using technology to solve problems — there’s incredible value in hearing directly from the people using our products. That’s why we’ve developed ways to consistently gather feedback and keep users at the forefront of our work. For instance, we host “empathy hours,” where we connect with customers and listen to their experiences through a series of guided questions.?
We also bring users into key events, like our recent Ads Product Leadership summit, where they can share their perspectives directly with our team. These touchpoints remind us of our “why” — that everything we do is ultimately about helping our users thrive.
Just thinking about Google’s scale and our opportunity to drive impact makes my heart skip a beat.
Working cross-functionally to think bigger and build better
Creating impactful experiences calls for collaboration. We embrace a cross-functional approach we call “four in a box,” which brings together Googlers across Engineering, Product, Project Management, Google Technical Services, and UX. Having a diverse mix of skills and experiences enables us to think creatively, solve complex challenges, and deliver user-centric experiences. The inclusive culture we have at Google is also key, as it empowers everyone to have a voice and share their perspective.
By working together as a unified team, we ensure that we’re not only meeting user expectations, but anticipating their needs. This collaborative mindset leads to effective solutions and, ultimately, a better experience for users.

Leveraging technology to create amazing, future-focused experiences
As technology evolves, so does our ability to innovate. We're continuously exploring new tools to enhance the user experience. AI, for example, helps us provide more efficient support by predicting questions and addressing them proactively. Real-time translation enables us to break down language barriers, providing high-quality support for a global audience.
I’m especially proud of our Performance Max (P. Max) campaigns, which help our advertising customers — many of whom aren’t marketers — seamlessly promote their businesses by answering questions and sharing information about their products. With P. Max, we simplify the marketing process and empower customers to grow their companies.
Technology is a powerful tool, but it’s always Google users that drive our work. With user feedback, we iterate on our products to make sure they deliver value. Our goal is simple: to build great experiences and help?customers succeed.
