Ecommerce Industry is growing at a rate of 20.7%. That means thousands of new stores going live every day with millions of online orders, and also over a million stores struggling really hard to remain in this competitive market.
That may sound a bit pessimistic, but eCommerce can be hard to get right. Even if you have the right products, audience, attractive storefront, you perform the “SEO” to achieve rankings but are they giving results?
According to me, SEO is not just about traffic and keywords. It is about the conversion. Therefore, before taking any client on-board, we have a defined strategy that we work on and tweak based on the outcome we expect for the coming months.
And guess what… we achieved 245% traffic growth with great conversion numbers for one of our clients. So, let me walk you through with all the details:
The challenge:
Our client was happy with the last 6 month’s results. However, we saw they had steady growth, and we knew we could improve their performance because that’s how we serve all our marketing clients at Biztech. So after studying the market and taking our client’s past performance into consideration, we create a few opportunities for them by revising the marketing strategies for the coming two quarters and achieved more than expected.
Our to-do list to achieve those results was:
- Identify New Keyword Opportunities
- Meta Tag & Page Content Update
- Content Creation & Marketing
- Content Repurpose
- High DA Link Building
Let’s see what changes we made to achieve the goals:
1. Identify New Keyword Opportunities:
For the past 6 months, we were targeting the same keywords with the same marketing strategy. Hence, the result was quite similar during this period. And that’s where we got stuck.
- We revised our strategies by finding new opportunities.
- We revisited our money pages and prepared a new list of revised keywords.
Various free and paid tools such as Ahrefs, SemRush, Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest were of great help. Listing out keywords with search volumes, helped us to identify the right keywords based on the intent and market trends that could give us more targeted users.
Let me share an example
When we searched one of the product category pages in the Ahrefs tool, we found many relevant keywords with higher search volume.
We downloaded those keywords and started sorting them based on intent & SEO difficulty level.
2. Meta Tag & Page Content Update:
Based on the keyword research, we updated the category pages’ meta details and included the relevant keywords in the content. Two major changes we did were:
- Updated the old category meta with the latest higher volume keywords
- Wrote new meta details for new categories and product pages.
3. Content Creation & Marketing:
We listed thousands of keywords where we found hidden opportunities to bring results.
We went through the keywords and bifurcated lists into groups by the intent. To understand the Google SERP ranking in-depth, we also searched and analyzed the top-ranked content for our target keywords.
Based on the analysis and keyword intent/queries, we identified which type of posts could rank higher. Accordingly, we maximized the content creation that gives us relevant traffic from the web. Below are some examples of the kind of posts we created:
- How to blog posts
- Information posts
- Comparison posts
- Research posts
- Various guides
Here is the Example:
For the targeted keywords, we analyzed the first page results. There were blogs, Wikipedia, product shopping page, image section, video section, and People also ask in results.
We created a product comparison post that ranked higher in Google and replaced existing posts. As a result, we got a higher ranking in generic keywords and generated Good clicks from it.
Our content team also made sure to stay updated with what’s happening in the industry. This means they wrote nuanced content that directly answered questions that people were actually looking for. They studied a lot of technical matters in order to be able to write that was both factual and creates interest beyond specifications.
4. Content Repurpose:
We identified the old posts where we could include the new keywords in and republished them with fresh content.
We have also refurbished the top content on high DA web 2.0 platforms such as SlideShare, Medium, Quora blog, short news sites, etc. and also published unique posts.
To understand the techniques in-depth, I’d like to share the Refurbishing Top Content post by Britney Muller 2019 that was first published in 2017.
5. High DA Link Building:
Yes, backlinks are one of the most important factors to rank higher in search engines. We started promoting products on Google My Business, Facebook store, local classified websites that generate referral traffic from local regions, and more.
The Results:
Our visits grew by 245%, giving us the conversion growth of 15.39%.
While marketing your business digitally, our first advice is to look into the existing data, identify the opportunities, and keep revising your strategies. Because your focus needs to be on the conversion.
