How waste systems actually work?
You may not see real challenges of waste management and opportunities in low income countries, if you stay close to the airport and return to your base after attending official meetings. This trend has been challenged by recently concluded research at LSE Cities, Rubbish Resources and Residue with some new findings on ground realities. Now most of the findings are available on the project website. Thanks to Jo Beall , Saeed Ud Din Ahmed, PhD , Suneela Ahmed and team for working with me in an inspiring and indepth, which was full of working. The research was influenced by COVID but not the findings. The paper tells a complete socio-technical story of how waste is actually managed in cities, the complexity of the system and the fact that the many involved in waste collection, recycling and disposal, with their own perspectives. There is a hybridity, robustness and continuity in the system but without collaboration. Research has some new findings about waste collectors, waste pickers and governance of waste. We love to hear from you and involved in further dissemination of this work.
