How vital is water to human life?
We spend our time here in the wealthy 1st world, bathing in it, washing in it, drinking it, flushing it, and throwing what is in excess of what we need at the time down the drain. How sustainable is this practise and can we as a collective begin to change that narrative? Are we willing to change our behaviour and really make others accountable for healthier water usage practises?
The everyday person, which by the way is everyone, with no exception!; follows the above mentioned pattern. And usually we pay for the luxurious experience so why not, right. If there is to be an innovation from a water service provider or penalties imposed on industries, it will no doubt end up being paid for by the end consumer. At the same time we, the end consumer are expected to believe and trust industry and indeed our water service providers and going to do the right thing. We could expect absolute transparency on the polluting of our waterways, actual drinking water quality results per region, prompt public notification of deviations etc. But the reality is far from that, it's prevalently the opposite and still we carry on, changing nothing.
Is it time to impose ridiculous fines and legal action on businesses and industries who have religiously ignored law, environmental and public health regulations. Do we need to remind the people who represent our interests (according to the votes) that anything less than intervention with a message of accountability and consequence is nothing short of criminal.
Is it so difficult the penalties reflect the level of deviance regarding public health, environment and length of time. Lets not forget privatised services and of course commercial enterprises and industrial players all enjoy the profit and maybe this alone is the reason why non-compliance and deviance has been writhe resulting in toxic waterways and increased public health issues. Let's take a quick peek at recent events; We see a wave of innovation regarding non-stick and waterproof products with little concern about the long-term or even development of alternatives once the reality became clear to researchers within the industry long-ago. The waste water system has remained largely the same with minor variations introduced. Don't get me wrong there has been innovation in the field of waste water treatment but are how they implemented if at all. Does it require a long overdue overhaul of aged systems and practises.

Let's backtrack to "us", We could not only start questioning businesses but maybe have direct, hands-on impact on the quality our drinking water through the usage of within our home and businesses. Re-usage systems may be a positive step forward. Think why am I paying for drinking water in my toilet?!
