How To Be Visible to Prospects on LinkedIn...even if you don't post much

(This is a rough transcript of the training I did inside my Facebook group LinkedIn Secrets for Copywriters and Coaches)

This one is for everyone who believes they need to post 7 times a week to make it worthwhile on LinkedIn or any other platform for that matter.

But social media can be exhausting and time-consuming and above all, you may not have the time and space to create content consistently. But you definitely need leads and prospects for your business.

First of all, let’s talk about the pressure of creating content.

I know that it’s a really popular notion these days that you need to create content all the time and it’s all you think about but how much of it is viable and feasible for you as an army of one or as a small business without someone you’ve outsourced content creation to.

So you’re doing it all yourself.

Take off the pressure of creating content. Stop beating yourself up over it.

I know so many people who follow me reach out to me and say “Divya I have no time to create so much content. What do I do?”

Now there are ways to create content sustainably and not burn yourself out in the process.

But let’s just say that’s not you. I know that content creation does not come naturally to some of us. And I’m not one to say “Just do it”, "Just think about content" and "This is what you MUST do in order to be successful".

I don’t believe in that kind of stuff.

There are ways to be active on LinkedIn without living on the platform- without posting 7 times a week.

And you can still find leads and generate business.

Let’s eliminate the myth that you need to live on a platform to derive business from it. We will look at two ways to find and engage with prospects without thinking or doing content creation.

In order to find your ideal prospects, you need to know who they are. Which means, you need an ideal client persona.

Identify and clarify who your ideal prospects are.

I want you to think about your prospects and really drill down on them. Now I will not into detail in this video about creating your ideal client persona but I will point you to two trainings in this group, two videos that talk about clarity in your marketing-

So the first one is if you go to Guides --> Guide 1 Foundational Stuff --> The 4Ws for Clarity in your LI efforts.

This one talks about the underlying stuff in all of your marketing that you need to take hold of before starting to actively market your business and your services.

The second one is under Guide 4 Miscellaneous --> a video Interview where I talk about aligning your marketing with your ideal client persona.

I think these two resources will help you clarify who the ideal client is. Find them in my Facebook group here.

Find prospects and engage with them.

There are two simple ways of doing that.

1. LinkedIn Search

If you’re a copywriter working with fitness coaches, for example- search “fitness coach” on LI and check out profiles of fitness coaches that come up.

You can also set filters on your search and inch closer to your ideal client persona.

Let’s say your ideal client is a fitness coach in the UK. LinkedIn search filters will allow you to set the Location filter to the UK.

Look through all of the other filters available so that you make sure that the search criteria is the closest it can be to your ideal client.

Now you have a list of your ideal prospects in front of you.

Look at their profile, engage with their content, and send them a personalized connection request.

Put in the keywords that define your ideal client in the Search box on LI. And start engaging with their content and sending out personalized connection requests.

This is a series of steps you can take once a day/week/month as long as it’s sustainable for you.

I really believe in sustainable marketing. If you create 19 pieces of content in a week- one week- but are unable to hold that up the next week, what’s the point of doing it once.

I believe in consistency more than on a single stretch of hustle. The truth of the matter is that it does not matter if you do it once. It matters if you do it over a period of time so that the results compound on each other.

2. Hashtags

Engage in relevant hashtags. Hashtags are a great way to find out people working in your niche and prospects looking for someone like you.

Let’s say you’re a business coach for high-achieving women in tech. Think about the hashtags your ideal clients might be following and using. Possibly your ideal clients might be using and following #technology #womeninstem #womenintech #tech, etc. if they are women in tech.

Start following these hashtags and every once in a while (day/week/month), engage with posts in these hashtags.

Gradually, you will start getting connection requests from your ideal clients and that will build a pipeline of leads into your business.

The Side Effect

What also happens as a side effect of all of this action is that LI realizes that you’re trying to connect with a single kind of person and they start aligning your LI feed and posts you see to your interests.

You might notice after a while that you see posts from your ideal prospects a lot as you engage with them more and more.

So posting content is not the only way to stay visible in front of your ideal clients. Follow these active engagement strategies and you will see a healthy stream of leads flow into your business.

But as is with everything, build a strategy and stay on it. Consistency is a game-changer.
