Video is a powerful tool for communication, especially when it comes from the Leaders of an organisation.
Leveraging video can humanize leadership, foster trust, and promote transparency. I consistently see the benefits of communicating through different mediums. We see it in our lives outside the office every day. So why not have that inside the four walls of your organisation?
I have seen the benefits of video for internal communications firsthand. With the new integration of Clipchamp with SharePoint this could well be "the" feature / integration we have been waiting for.
I have compiled 10 benefits (there are many more) that I have had the privilege of witnessing when companies have included video into their communications channels:
- Humanizing Leadership: Video allows employees to see and hear their leaders, making them more relatable. It's not just about reading an email; it's about seeing the emotion, passion, and conviction in the leader's eyes and voice. This creates a more personal connection.
- Transparency: Video can be a transparent medium. When leaders address challenges, successes, and future plans on video, it can foster a sense of openness. Employees appreciate when leaders are candid and straightforward.
- Engagement: Outside the office, people consume video content daily (heard of this thing called TikTok?). It's engaging, digestible, and can be more impactful than written communication. A video can capture attention and convey messages more effectively.
- Consistency: Video ensures that everyone gets the same message, in the same tone, with the same emphasis. There's no room for misinterpretation or "I heard it differently."
- Accessibility: With the rise of remote work and global teams, video can be accessed anytime, anywhere. It breaks down geographical barriers and ensures that everyone, no matter where they are, feels included.
- Storytelling: Video is a fantastic medium for storytelling. Leaders can share company history, customer testimonials, or employee success stories. This not only communicates information but also builds company culture and pride.
- Feedback Loop: Modern video platforms often allow for comments or Q&A sessions. This can create a two-way communication channel where employees feel heard and leaders can address concerns or questions.
- Training & Development: Beyond just communication, video can be used for other things. Leaders can share insights, industry trends, or personal experiences that can be valuable learning tools for employees.
- Branding: Just as Gary Vaynerchuk emphasizes personal branding, companies too have a brand internally. Videos can help in reinforcing company values, mission, and culture, ensuring everyone is aligned.
- Scalability: Once a video is made, it can be shared with thousands in an instant. Whether you're a company of 50 or 50,000, video ensures everyone gets the message at the same time.
I think that video is such a dynamic tool that can bridge the gap between leadership and employees, fostering a sense of unity, purpose, and shared vision.
At the end of the day, it's all about the human connection, and video is a tool that amplifies it.

1 年I would love to see more companies pay more attention to videos they produce internally. I mean, regular meeting recordings doesn't count as internal video recording; I know they hold content, but I wouldn't call them a leadership communication tool. Microsoft is introducing a Town Halls instead of Teams Live feature in the meeting experience this year, which is the perfect way for leadership communication
