The purpose of value modelling is used to focus solution development on value delivery by tracing decisions between Need or Want to the value perspective of the stakeholders.
In rapid changing technical environment sometimes customer's need or want is not clear. So for that it's important to identify all the stakeholders for the solution and performing qualitative and quantitative research in order to propose what is really needed to the customer and add value to the business. Value Modelling can be done at every stage i.e. strategy, initiative & the delivery stages.
Customer value can be calculated by simple formula -
Customer Value = Benefits - Cost
While Agile has shifted the way teams approach software development, the importance of delivering real, measurable value to customers and the business has not changed. Value Modelling continues to be a critical tool for aligning teams, prioritizing features, improving efficiency, and ensuring that development efforts remain focused on high-value outcomes.
In today's Agile environment, where teams operate in fast-paced, ever-changing conditions, Value Modelling provides clarity and strategic focus without stifling adaptability. By visualizing value, collaborating around goals, and continuously refining processes, teams can stay aligned with customer and business needs while delivering high-impact software that meets evolving requirements.
Therefore, Value Modelling doesn’t just add value in today’s Agile environment—it enables Agile teams to be more purposeful, aligned, and effective in their delivery of true business value.
