How To Use Your Labor Day Weekend To Fully Recharge
AIM Consulting Group
We build high-performance teams and deliver on business-critical initiatives with modern technologies and processes
We often idealize our days off - whether it be weekends or holidays - and find ourselves counting down the minutes until they arrive. Yet too often, our days off fly by without us even noticing until it's too late. The result is us returning to work without the recharge, rest, and fun we anticipated, and feeling mentally unprepared to start another week in the office.
In our continued effort to prioritize the health, happiness, and success of our employees, AIM Consulting and the rest of the Addison Group family of brands are holding a designated Recharge Day on the Friday before Labor Day. Read on for some ways to celebrate the four-day weekend and take full advantage of the time away.
Check Things Off Your To-Do List
Though taking relaxation to the max and lying in bed all day may seem tempting, your future self will thank you for handling a couple of errands. Your whole day off doesn't need to be dedicated to chores, but this is a great time to tackle anything that's been sitting on your to-do list for too long - whether it be vacuuming, doing laundry, washing the car, or taking your pet to the groomers.
Try Something New
A day off is a great opportunity to try something you've always wanted to do. Perhaps you've been itching to visit your city's aquarium or zoo. Maybe there's a new recipe you've been wanting to test out. Or perhaps you've always wanted to try a certain fitness class, whether it's hot yoga, kickboxing, Zumba, or spin (many workout studios offer discounts on your first class). Your free day is a great chance to "carpe diem," get outside your comfort zone and do something nonroutine.
Practice Self-Care
If you want to walk into the office next week feeling rested, why not take this chance to treat yourself to some dedicated recharge time? A hot bath, a face mask, time spent snuggled up with a good book, or even an extra-long shower can be just the thing you need to completely relax during your time away from the office.
Take a Nap
Why not spend your day off doing something you definitely can't do on your typical workday? A brief, 20-minute nap can allow your mind and body to get the extra rest it needs in the middle of the day. Scientists have found that naps have real health benefits, too, including improved memory call and boosted learning and performance.
Soak Up The Sun
In many people's minds, this weekend marks the last week of summer - and with that, one of our final weekends with good weather. Whether you prefer to hit a hiking trail and enjoy the great outdoors or soak up the sun in a park, by a lake, or on a patio, this weekend is a great chance to catch some rays. Just don't forget the SPF!
Unplug and Enjoy Your Day
Even if you're able to step away from your work devices and stop checking your work emails during a day off, it can be difficult to disconnect from your personal devices. Checking your phone and scrolling through social media feeds may be tempting, but can quickly use up your precious time off before you even realize it. The saying "Comparison is the thief of joy" rings true, and the digital age we live in makes comparison all too easy. Instead of comparing the way you're spending your time off to all your friends and colleagues, focus on being present in the moment and enjoy the day however you want to.
