How to Use SEO for Your Business

What is SEO

These days, it's pretty hard for a business to thrive without having some form of internet presence. If you're in the digital marketing realm, it's a good chance that you know that Inbound marketing is essential to building website traffic. One of the most important components of inbound marketing is SEO.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of optimizing websites so that search engines like Google can find them when users enter keywords related to the content of the site. When used properly, SEO allows for a website to appear high on Google when users type in keywords related to your product or services.?

Search engines use algorithms to analyze numerous pages on the web, taking into account hundreds of ranking factors or signals, to determine the order pages should appear in the search results for a given search.?

Why use SEO

When used properly, SEO can provide continuous profits for a company over time. Unlike paid search ads, you can’t pay search engines to get higher organic search rankings, which means SEO specialists have to put in good quality work. From a user perspective, web pages that are generated organically from a search as opposed to a paid search are perceived to be more credible.?

How to use SEO

When optimizing your website for search engines, here are some important things to consider:?

  • Keywords are words used to help define your business, products, services, etc. They’re also used by search engines to rank sites based on relevancy. For instance, if you're selling cars, you could use "automobile" as a keyword. Furthermore, including keywords relevant to your product or services is important.

A good example would be if you own a car dealer website, adding "tires" to your keywords could bring more visitors to your site. If you want to know which words and phrases people enter when they're searching for something online, Google Trends is a great first step.

  • Meta Tag - Meta Tags are HTML tags that contain text describing your website. They also tell search engines what kind of content is on your page. Essentially they are small previews of a webpage. They give the user a small snippet of what your page will entail.

Placing the right keywords in your meta tags will attract the right type of customers. There are many different types of meta tags, but some of the most common are the title tag, meta description, and meta keywords tags. The title tag is used to specify the title of a page and is often used by search engines as the title of a search result. The meta description tag is used to provide a brief description of a page's content and is often used by search engines as the description of a search result. The meta keywords tag is used to specify a list of keywords that are relevant to a page's content and is often used by search engines to help index and categorize a page.?

  • Content- Your content needs to be original and useful. Content is king when it comes to SEO because if you don't have any good content nobody will link to you and you won't get any views. Search engine Algorithms favor websites that provide relevant information about topics that aren’t covered elsewhere.?

Blogging is a great way to start creating quality content that will help your site appear high in search results. Having a blog allows you to share the news with your customers and potential clients about your product or services.?

Once you start writing content for your blog, you might be tempted to create generic posts. However, if you want to attract readers, and place high on search engine results you must focus on creating unique blogs that stand out. If you struggle to find inspiration, staying up to date on industry news and following thought leaders in your industry is a great first step.?

It's important to post new content often; once every week isn't enough. Your goal here is to publish at least 1 piece of content every day! That doesn't mean only writing articles though. You could also use videos or pictures to engage your audience and keep them coming back.

Linking is another tool that search engines use to evaluate relevance. When you link to another page on your site, it shows that you trust that page and that others may benefit from reading it. Link building is an important part of any SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy. It is often one of the most difficult and time-consuming tasks, but it is essential for anyone who wants their website to be successful.

Link-building is the practice of acquiring backlink (inbound) traffic from other companies' websites to your own. This is done to improve search engine rankings; the more links you have pointing to your website, the higher it will appear in search engine results pages.?

Guest blogging, directory submission, and social media outreach are all great ways to build links. However, not all links are created equal; some links will be much more valuable than others. The most valuable links are typically those that come from high-quality websites that are relevant to your own.?

Here are some of the top reasons why marketers use link-building?

  1. Improved search engine rankings: Links are one of the main ranking factors for Google and other search engines.?
  2. Increased referral traffic: Links can also be a source of referral traffic, which is traffic that comes to your website from other sources, such as social media or blogs.
  3. Builds relationships: Link building can help you to build relationships with other websites and bloggers, which can be beneficial for your business or website.
  4. Increases brand awareness: Link building can help to increase brand awareness for your website or business.
  5. Helps to acquire new customers: Link building can help you to acquire new customers or clients, as well as help to increase sales and revenue.

SEO is important for virtually any industry or company that has an online presence. An example of an industry that interests me is the fitness industry. This type of market is saturated with content from all aspects of health and fitness. This can range from yoga; meal prepping; bodybuilding; cross fit, and essentially anything that falls under the fitness umbrella.

A simple google search of “fitness supplements” will populate an array of workout videos, personal fitness blog stories, fitness plans, etc.? To stand out from everyone else with fitness content, proper use of? SEO is essential.??

This type of market has a lot of competition, so having a website that ranks high in Google searches for "supplements" is essential. A good SEO strategy includes creating blogs about topics related to your niche, such as "top 10 supplements to lose weight and gain muscle."? The keywords/terms in this phrase are “lose weight”, “supplements”, “gain”, and “muscle”. These types of articles help drive traffic back to your site, helping you rank higher in Google searches. When a user searches on Google using one or some of these keywords, your page will hopefully show up.
